KLANG: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has summoned all PKR state assemblymen to congregate at his official residence on Monday (Feb 24) morning.

However, those who are aligned to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will first gather at the Institut Darul Ehsan in Shah Alam before proceeding to the MB’s official residence.

Amirudin, who was away attending a retreat with the state executive councillors in Bandung, Indonesia, called for the gathering as soon as he returned home on Sunday (Feb 23) night.

According to a state assemblyman on the way to attend the gathering, Amirudin had sent out word that he will safeguard PKR in Selangor.

"We don’t know what he means but at this juncture, we are assuming that he will switch camps and move to Anwar’s side," said the assemblyman.

Out of the 21 PKR assemblymen in Selangor, 12 are aligned to party deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali while nine are in Anwar’s camp.

However, Selangor is unlikely to fall if there are changes at the federal level given that 33 assemblymen - 16 from DAP, nine from PKR and eight from Amanah fully support Anwar.

On the other hand, Azmin’s 12 supporters along with five Barisan Nasional, one PAS and five Bersatu assemblymen, merely make-up 23 assemblymen in the state’s 56-member legislative assembly.

If Amirudin chooses to go with Azmin, he will no longer be the MB and will end-up in the state’s Opposition bloc which is currently headed by Barisan’s Rizam Ismail.

“Prior to Amirudin calling for the meeting, we received word that four or five PKR assemblymen aligned to him were contemplating on moving over to Anwar’s camp," said the assemblyman.

Both PKR and DAP had won all the seats that they had contested for in Selangor in the last general election with thumping majorities in urban and suburban areas.
