PETALING JAYA: The government's decision to have a one-day Parliament sitting on May 18 will be maintained, says Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan (pic).

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said, in a statement Sunday (May 3), that the government is taking precautions against the spread of Covid-19 by avoiding mass gathering.

He said this in response to the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting that sought a two-week Parliament sitting starting May 18.

"The sitting arrangements of MPs in the Dewat Rakyat will also be adjusted to implement social distancing outlined by the Health Minister," he said.

"In view of the impact of Covid-19 to individuals, businesses and companies, the government has agreed to present new Bills in Parliament in July," said Takiyuddin.

The first Parliament meeting in 2020 was scheduled to begin on March 9 but was postponed to May 18.

The second Parliament meeting is scheduled to sit for 25 days from July 13 to Aug 27,2020.
