KULAI: The last minute change of candidates does not mean that the original individual is rejected or unqualified to represent Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Johor state election.

Johor BN chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad said the changes were made to ensure that candidate would fulfill certain criteria and main component to secure the party's victory on March 12.

"The changes in candidates are not because the original candidate is unsuitable, it's not like that.

"This is because we want to field more women candidates. This is the same with fielding more young candidates, in addition to nominating those with academic qualifications in the selection of candidates."

He said this at a Press conference after officiating the Johor Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia Pusat Sahabat Usahawan leadership ceremony in Senai, here, today.

It was previously reported that Umno, as a component party of BN, had announced changes in their candidate lineup, after making the announcement.

The original Tanjung Surat candidate Datuk Syed Sis Abd Rahman was replaced with Umno Pengerang Youth chief Aznan Tamin, while Sungai Balang candidate Selamat Takin replaced Mohd Helmi Abd Latif.

Hasni added that the change in candidates was something normal, and was also done by other BN component parties.

"Last minute changes were made in the BN spirit, we see that MCA and MIC also have done the same.

"Of course Umno needs to make some adjustments when we want to finalise seat allocation in BN," he added.

We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some have yachts, some have canoes, and some are drowning. Just be kind and help whoever you can.
