KUALA LUMPUR:The suggestion that a forensic audit be conducted on oil and gas entity Sapura Energy Bhd (Sapura Energy) is expected to be raised in the upcoming Dewan Rakyat session.

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said the idea, mooted by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his debate with former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak last Thursday, should not end there and had to be taken to Parliament for deliberation.

Fahmi said other suggestions, such as those related to the forex scandal and Goods and Services Tax raised by Najib, should also be raised in the upcoming session.

"When Parliament convenes, I believe many members of parliament, especially those who attended the debate, will raise these issues.

"I see the debate as being the same as penning an article or reporting the news, where information is delivered and the idea adopted by those with authority, in this case the prime minister and cabinet.

"As MPs, we only have the power to approve legislation and raise suggestions in Parliament.

"Whether those ideas go through are subject to political whims," Fahmi said said after visiting the PKR election venue at its Lembah Pantai branch.

Sapura Energy recorded a net loss of RM8.9 billion for its financial year ending Jan 31, compared with RM160.87 million
in the same period the year before.

Meanwhile, asked if he was satisfied with the outcome of the debate between Anwar and Najib, Fahmi replied in the negative, saying there were many restrictions placed mainly by Najib's camp.

He said these included restrictions against mentioning 1Malaysia Development Bhd issues and the location, format and choice of moderator.

Fahmi said: "I hope many more debates will be organised after this, such as between the prime minister (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) and opposition chief (Anwar), which would be eagerly awaited.

"However, let's not have the same format and restrictions.

"It's as if some people fear Anwar."
