SEREMBAN: Party strength and voter demographics are among factors the Pakatan Harapan (PH) seat division committee will consider in redistributing seats held by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for the 15th General Election (GE15).

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu said the redistribution of the seats held by Bersatu would not be conducted equally among component party members.

"The committee will look and consider various aspects, including the strength of a party, the history of past contests and previous achievements.

"In addition, the number of existing seats and (will look into) the party's capability of achieving victory as well.

"Currently negotiations on the seats are underway and are 70 percent done. There was a lot understanding and there are a few more (seats), with talks to be concluded by the end of this month," he said after opening the Amanah Convention 2022, here, today.

Present were his deputy, Datuk Seri Sallehuddin Ayub, and Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad, and the party's top leadership.

As part of PH in GE14 in 2018, Bersatu garnered 13 parliament and 22 state seats. After the Sheraton Move in February 2020, the party, which is now part of Perikatan Nasional, has 29 Dewan Rakyat members and 39 state assembly seats.

Mohamad, who is also a PH presidential council member, said some component parties would have more seats.

He cited what took place in Johor GE14, where PKR won seven seats, DAP had six and Amanah, one.

"Based on that we (committee will) consider in terms of quality to enable us to compete in the coming elections," he said.

On Amanah Youth and Wanita urging the party to allocate "grade A" seats to them, Mohamad, who is also Kota Raja member of parliament, said such an issue did not arise.

He said the party had given the two wings the opportunity to contest in GE15.

"So far, we have placed no seats as grades A, B or C and so on, because we could not identify the voters' trend in the next election.

"Seniors Amanah leaders had contested four or five times before winning," he said.

Mohamad, however, said he would consider the party wing's views on the matter.

"We will evaluate, review and consider the views because what is important is to ensure that Amanah will not only perform well in GE15 but also help PH form the government after the election," he said.
