MELAKA, June 6 — The Melaka government aims for 5G coverage rate in populated areas in the state to reach 100 per cent by 2024.
State Science Technology Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairman, Fairul Nizam Roslan, said that this is based on the current coverage rate that has reached 55.1 per cent and aims to increase to 80 per cent by the end of this year.
“If by October 80 per cent has been completed, then we can start to work to complete another 20 per cent of the access rate including identifying the sites.
“The 5G coverage rate in the state will be further improved under Phase 2 of the Melaka 5G Implementation Plan, with an additional 91 5G site locations covering areas in the Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah and Jasin districts,” he told reporters here today.
Commenting further, Fairul said that as of April 30, 114 sites were completed, and 101 of those sites, including in Duyong, had started operating to provide 5G services.
He said that the guidelines for the replacement and new installation of smart lamp poles (SLP) in Melaka had already been approved at the state government meeting (MMKN) in May, thus speeding up the construction of new 5G structures statewide. — Bernama
