MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd has named Fauzi Abdul Rahman as the new non-executive chairman in order to ensure that the company satisfies the government's aspiration for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail (HSR) project to be fully privatised through the Private Financing Initiative (PFI).

The company said in a statement that Fauzi, who previously held the position of board member for Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd from 2018 to 2021, is regarded as being "well-versed" in the railway industry's developments and challenges.

MyHSR Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal said as the company begins this new chapter for the high speed rail, Fauzi's long history of insightful leadership and steadfast dedication to positive growth will bring the HSR development to fruition.

Fauzi, who holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Mining Engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, has held various senior positions in the public service and served in various ministries.

He was a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department between 1997 and 1999.

Fauzi was also the Member of Parliament (MP) of Kuantan between 1990 and 1999, and later the MP of Indera Mahkota between 2013 and 2018.
