LANGKAWI: Former member of parliament for Permatang Pauh, Nurul Izzah Anwar, urges voters to choose candidates who can represent the people's voices, rather than individuals who only know how to speak crudely and exhibit a 'loqlaq' attitude (Penang dialect for crude).

Referring to the upcoming state elections in six states on August 12, Nurul Izzah, who is also the PKR vice president, stated that elections are not a contest to find 'entertainer' leaders on the social media platform TikTok.

"The current elections are quite challenging, especially in this era of widespread TikTok (social media) usage. It's as if we are dragged into a competition of who can be the loudest and most offensive.

"Instead, we should be seeking state assembly members (Adun) who are committed to work, seek investments, and promote economic development," she said during her speech at the Sembang Santai Bersama Orang Muda event in Warung bangau Sawah here last night.

Also present were the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Ayer Hangat state assembly seat, Hisham Suhaily Othman, and the PKR candidate for the Kuah state assembly seat, Ahmad Fauzi Chik.

Nurul Izzah, who is also the chairman of PKR Kedah State Leadership Council, mentioned that the determination of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN coalition to win in the Rice Bowl States was to safeguard the welfare of the people.

"Kedah needs a government that is aligned and in harmony with the Federal government to facilitate the implementation of all planned projects, as some require the support of the Federal government.

"Therefore, let us vote for representatives who can effectively build and maintain bridges with the Federal government. Let us not give any room for individuals who represent parties that do not share the same goals," she emphasised.
