IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of RM1 million to facilitate construction of the Al-Ummah Education Complex (KPU).

Anwar, who is Tambun member of parliament, said the allocation was approved today to continue the project in Chemor near here.

"For now, I approve RM1 million, and I will review more of the project. The rest, we need to discuss with the state government, and our officers will thoroughly review this project so that it can be completed on time.

"Within one to two weeks, the allocation will be available to assist in the project," he said.

Anwar made these remarks during his visit to the building here. Earlier, he toured an exhibition showcasing the progress of the complex.

First-phase construction of the KPU building began in 2016, with the groundbreaking on October 26, 2020.

Construction of the complex began with an initial cost of RM6 million, which were collected through donations. However, progress had slowed as the flow of funds began to dwindle. The entire complex was expected to cost RM35 million upon completion.

It was built to address the overcrowding of pupils at various learning centres in the district, as well as to accommodate teachers and support staff for three institutions after 36 years of operation.

They included preschools, the Al-Ummah Islamic Primary School (Seri) and the Al-Hikmah Madrasah (Madah), serving nearly 2,200 individuals.
