BEIJING: Malaysia and China should set up a research centre like the China Public Administration Case Centre to exchange case studies in various fields, according to a Tsinghua University alumni leader, Datuk Nicole Wong.

She said sharing case studies would help both nations in science and humanities.

“Malaysia needs to establish a case research centre similar to the China Public Administration Case Centre to facilitate the exchange of case studies between the two countries.

“This would enable both sides to learn from each other's successful experiences in economic development, social governance, and environmental protection.”

She said that the above proposal complements the repeated emphasis by Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on enhancing research cooperation between Malaysia and China following their meeting.

Wong, who graduated with a Master’s degree, is a board member of the prestigious Tsinghua Alumni Association for the School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM).

She is the only Malaysian to serve as a board member.

As of May 2024, Tsinghua University has about 547 Malaysian graduates. These graduates span various fields such as humanities, architecture, computer science, and business administration.

She also made the proposal during an invitation to a Beijing-based university’s School of Public Administration forum in Beijing recently.

Wong said one area where both sides could collaborate would be artificial intelligence. Both countries could actively participate and jointly promote academic and technological development, benefiting the people of both nations.

The other academicians who participated included those from Tsinghua, Harvard Kennedy School and University of Michigan.

She pointed out that in terms of technological and cultural exchange, Malaysia and China can set up a shared research resource platform to promote data sharing, equipment sharing, and technology exchange between research institutions in both countries, thereby improving research efficiency.

The Tsinghua Alumni Association, which was founded in 1981, has 143 active alumni associations at home and abroad, including 87 in China (covering 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, and Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan), and 56 abroad (covering 18 countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, South Korea, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Austria).
