IPOH: The country needs brave young leaders to uphold its dignity, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said young leaders also need to be clean from corruption to bring changes to the country.

"It is important for our youth to defend their rights and to reject corruption and cruelty.

"We sometimes forget and can get careless, so we need to wake up," he said in his speech when launching the Malaysian Five Generations Organisation (Pertubuhan Lima Generasi Malaysia) at the Ipoh Convention Centre here on Sunday (July 7).

"We have brave youth who can fight for what they want.

"We must first clean ourselves of corruption, and only then can we progress and uphold our country's dignity," he added.

Anwar said he would do anything to defend the country's rights and sovereignty while ensuring that the country can progress.

"I don't care. You can curse and criticise me or even send me to jail, but I will come back out and fight.

"With whatever powers and machinery I have, I will ensure that I will uphold the dignity of our country," he said.

"This is the time we stand up as a force to be reckoned with, as people who can show our greatness, be hardworking, be principled, and fight for justice and the country," he added.

He also said the country and its people could no longer be complacent or else be left behind.

"We cannot be complacent. We want to be competent," he said.

"We want our country to be great. We need knowledge, investments and artificial intelligence to progress. We also want to eradicate poverty," he added.
