KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a six-day-long remand order against two civil servants, who were arrested yesterday for allegedly accepting RM10,000 in bribes.

The magistrate's court here granted MACC's application to remand the suspects, aged 33 and 49, beginning today until July 28.

Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain said the remand is to enable the anti-graft agency to investigate the case under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

It was reported that the two men, attached to the same government agency in Tanah Merah, were detained at the state MACC office in Lundang here at 4.30pm yesterday.

They were arrested following a report lodged by a man, in his 60s, with the MACC.

In the report, the man claimed that his heavy machinery, which was used to carry out illegal logging activities in a state forest reserve, was seized by one of the two government servants recently.

The man claimed he had paid the amount to the officer and another man for the release of his machinery.
