SG4 Group Sdn Bhd executive secretary Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has slammed UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, whom he said did not understand the role of SG4 Group as a company.

According to Takiyuddin, Puad needs to understand the difference between a state government and a company before questioning the newly-established company’s future if any of the states currently led by Perikatan Nasional - Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis and Kedah - were to fall to other coalitions, reported Utusan Malaysia.

“I don’t understand why the Johor State Assembly Speaker (referring to Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi) finds it so hard to understand this matter,” he was quoted as saying by the Malay news portal.

“SG4 Group is a company and if one of the four states as a shareholder wants to leave the company, they can do so at any time they want.

“In fact, if any other quarters or even other states want to join SG4 Group, we welcome them. What I mean is that any states in Malaysia can join SG4 Group Sdn Bhd, even states under BN.”

The Kota Bharu MP said so far, four states jointly-owned the company and each state has nominated an entity in their respective state government as a shareholder.

Takiyuddin earlier said the four state governments, namely Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Perlis, have established SG4 Group Sdn Bhd, to drive development in their states.

He said each state will hold a 25% share amounting to RM250,000 in the company, which was registered a few months ago.

The five focus areas include infrastructure and logistics; trade investment and industries; agriculture and food security; education and nation-building; and, new revenue streams.

On Tuesday (Sept 3), Puad had criticised the decision to establish SG4 Group Sdn Bhd, adding that the initiative is political motivated and that it is unprecedented for four states to share ownership of a company.

This shared ownership, he said, could create complications related to labour, assets, shares, and the board of directors.

The Rengit assemblyman had also questioned the company’s future if any of the states currently led by PN were to fall to other parties. - Sept 4, 2024
