JUST two days have passed since the bloody incident that was Sept 11, which resulted in the collapse of the World Trade Center.

The death count stood at 2,996, a figure that certain parties have disputed, giving rise to numerous conspiracy theories that challenged the veracity of the tragedy.

Although it happened on foreign soil or more specifically the United States Of America, the Sept 11 tragedy holds a tenuous link to Malaysia.

In a post on X, netizen Azizul Farhan said the world has yet to forget what happened during Sept 11 even after 23 years.

However, does anyone remember the fact that three of the casualties were Malaysians?

According to Azizul Farhan, the three of them were in the same building but on a different floor when it happened.

He went on to narrate the last moments of one of the victims, 23 year old  Vijayashanker Paramsothy who works as an analyst at AON Corporation. 

Apparently, Vijayashanker has just returned from his holiday in Spain to attend the wedding of his friend.

But on Sept 11, fate would bring him back to his office at the 103 floor, the southern tower of the World Trade Center.

When the northern tower was struck by the first plane, all the residents of the southern tower were instructed to evacuate the building.

Vijayashanker managed to reach the 78th floor before he stopped to save AON Corporation vice president Howard Kestenbaum who was seriously injured.

Vijayashanker who was also injured did not abandon his colleague. They and several hundreds of people did not escape the collapsing southern tower.

Then there was 37 year old Ang Siew Nya, a mother and a technical analyst from Marsch & Co. 38 year old Sei Lai Khoo was a funds manager at Fred Alger Management who was supposed to hold her wedding this year.

Azizul Farhan’s post has touched the hearts of many netizens, with many condemning the acts of the criminals. Interestingly, they were very much divided on who were the perpetrators behind the Sept 11 tragedy.

“Thank you for sharing as I do not know about it,” said a netizen, adding that he feels the same towards the families of the victims like what happened with the MH17 tragedy which became a sacrifice in a foreign soil due to it being targeted by terrorism.

Netizen Nora said it would be great if there was a show involving the three of these individuals on Sept 11. She added that there is the potential for such a story to enter Netflix, best if directed by Syafiq Yusof.

Another netizen said that when the World Trade Center collapsed, the police caught five Israelist dancing as though celebrating with happiness that their plans had succeeded.

However they were released and sent back to Israel. The netizen helpfully added that people could find out more by searching “5 dancing Israelis.”

Regardless of all the conspiracy theories being thrown around and the possibility of a movie on netflix, it is only appropriate that we mourn the passing of the many lives on this fateful day besides the three late Malaysians.

It is also a reminder that life is fleeting and one should make the very most of it everyday. - Sept 13, 2024
