A singh.. this one I agree with you :P But still no Gas Malaysia for me :D
2012-11-08 10:33 | Report Abuse
Well.. we will see.. I am in the energy business for the >10 years, so I have seen it all. No need to argue here anymore.. you go buy your gas Malaysia. :)
2012-11-08 10:23 | Report Abuse
Haha so desperate until have to call name. When money comes to a crunch, to hell with CO2 emmission.
Anyway I think Petgas (toll-road operator)is a good bet, but not Gas Malaysia, as they are supplying to smaller companies which will not hesitate to convert to coal. Take a good look at share price performance of PGN which is equivalent to Gas Malaysia in Indonesia.
Lets just say I am familiar with Nat gas and coal power and have seen countless companies switch for Nat gas to coal, except for Malaysia due to subsidized gas. Well good luck to you.
2012-11-08 10:17 | Report Abuse
Looking at Indonesia, they used to have gas shortage due to subsidized price (USD 4.3/mmbtu), once the new unsubsidized pricing is up (USD 6.3/mmbtu) suddenly a lot of the company change to coal power within 6 months, now the gas capacity in Indonesia is excess and they have visit each company to ask them to use more.
2012-11-08 10:13 | Report Abuse
Hahaha. Well ok, dave we agree to disagree. You buy your gas and I buy my solar.
Did you know currently Malaysian gas is heavily subsidized, and the subsidy reform has already been implemented for new quotas? It is set to rise 10% every year until the subsidy is gone. In fact the Prai power plant in which Tenaga has won the bid is using the un-subsidized gas price for the bid?
Now with the subsidy, gas is the cheapest fuel, but once the subsidy is gone, coal will be the cheapest fuel and the preferred energy for power plants. Based on market price Natural Gas is 40% more expensive than coal based on per kcal energy value.

Dave,
Which part of guaranteed earnings that you do not understand? Be it 1 competitor or 100 or 10,000, the earnings the same and are GUARANTEED by FiT pricing, SEDA quota & 21 year long concession. This means for every Kw generated, the payment is fixed (on reducing scale)and TNB has signed a 21 years use or pay contract with cypark, which all capacity will be bought by TNB. That is why TNB charge you the 1% extra in your electricity bill. :)
You are mixing up the solar panel manufacturer with the RE energy generation business. The fact that most solar panels now is doing badly due to overcapacity is a bonus to Cypark as their capital cost will DECREASE.
2012-11-08 09:37 | Report Abuse
BTW, to all non-cypark holders, thank you for contributing 1% of your TNB bill to Cyparks FiT mechanism earnings. :)
2012-11-08 09:35 | Report Abuse
Dave,
Why are you worried about the future of oil and gas, Cypark is not affected by those external factors. Their RE business earnings is GUARANTEED by FiT mechanism. The concession which Cypark has signed with SEDA and TNB will be ongoing for 21 years. Wether oil goes up to USD 500/barrel or USD 10/barrel, the earnings remain the same. That is the beauty of long term concession.
SEDA is announcing tender for 2013 RE quota soon, and I am sure cypark will get another chunk of it, looking at thier track record at implementing RE at Pajam (completed), one more in Negeri Sembilan, one at Perlis and another at Johor is currently under installation.
The only major risk currently is GE in which has depressed Cypark's pricing.

Ok lar to hold long term.. last paid divvy is 8 cent/share around 5%. Faber have a dividend policy of min 20% of earning and will increase to 40% minimum.

Doh.. faber dividend for 2012 already paid in July lah. U want next dividend wait for 9 more months lah.
End of this month quarter report, possible write back on loss for lawsuit since they have won a few already.
2012-09-26 13:23 | Report Abuse
Based on previous dividend history, 3,5 sen then 7 sen now 8 sen, the 10 sen divvy might be for next year before the expiry. Special divvy unlikely as Fimacor already announced that they want to purchase another 19,000 ha of plantation. Remember the cash in Kfima, is 'shared' between them as a consolidated account.

Nothing wrong with living frugally. I find it more fulfilling as you don't need 'blings blings' or other material stuff to keep you happy. Means that you have found your peace in life.
Also not all 'poor' people live frugally, a lot of rich people especially the last generation, scrimp and save yet they can build a business empire.
WB is also known for his very very frugal habits :P

MNRB has tried to sell off the family takaful to Allianze Insurance previously, but talks we halted as they cannot agree on the price.
MNRB is a very illiquid counter with ~70% shared held by PNB, ASB, ASM, ASW2020, ASN. I am not concerned on small disposals by ASM.. :P

Hurricane Katrina is a costly event... but pity the insurance companies that is affected by the recent Japan Tsunami.. which will cost up to USD 25 billion. The biggest affected insurance companies are Tokio Marine, Munich Re & Swiss Re.
That said IF tomorrow KL get destroyed by earthquake, flood, tsunami etc.. we can say goodbye to MNRB. ;)

Re-insurers also commonly cede a portion of insurance to other re-re-insurer. This is done to lower the risk profile of holdings.
The statement means that portion of claim liability is ceded to another re-re-insurer. There will be no immediate impact on the profit, as it merely lower the future claims liabilities.
The insurance premium on Bangkok has shot to very high after the incident as lot of insurance company do not want cover the area. However saying that, Berkshire-Re is currently active in mopping up business there.
If there is a flood again, then provision for loss have to be made again and likely will suffer losses for the quarter. The amount of provision depend on severity.
Basically any natural disaster is a big liability for insurance and re-insurance with business in the disaster area. That is why those with the best financial strength will win in the long run.

Glad you like it KC Loh, I am merely stating the facts. No I am not familiar with the insurance industry, but I make a point to study each counter I hold thoroughly. You gotta understand what you are buying right?
2012-09-01 10:24 | Report Abuse
Leslie, yes you are right. No one knows if there will be any future disasters that might require a large insurance payout. The future liabilities might or might not happen. The un-expected Thai flooding took large chunk of profits from most re-insurance companies, and MNRB made a large provision to future liability.
2012-09-01 10:04 | Report Abuse
MNRB's financial strength is rated 'A' by Fitch Ratings, so it it classified under investment grade. Capital raising via MTN or LTB will be easy and at low interest rate.
2012-09-01 10:01 | Report Abuse
For the loan maturing in Dec, they will probably roll it into another MTN. With their asset they will have no problem doing so and do not need any capital raising.
The 20% mandatory re-insurance business does not really matter now to MNRB, because it total share of Malaysia Re-insurance business is currently at 61%. Followed by Munich RE & Swiss RE next at 13% & 10% respectively.
