In 2008, the short interest in Wells Fargo was at an all time high. The company had the highes percentage of housing loans in it loan books among the bank. Only second to Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac (Both of which had the federal guarantee, which wells fargo did not).
People thought the company was going bankrupt.
Only one person (well 2 actually) stood his ground, and bought in like crazy as prices fell. Its Warren Buffet and his partner Charlie Munger.
While he was giving a speech to students during the crisis, the students forced him to tell them one company to buy. Warren Buffet relented, and asked "What is the price of Wells fargo now?"
The students said "About 7 per share".
Warren replied: "If i could choose one company to put all my money into today, that would not be a bad choice."
Short term, price can go anywhere. Long term, it will meet its intrinsic value.
What is the intrinsic value? You need to find out. Short term price movements will not tell you.

Hi paperplane, hope you are well lately. I put 90% of all my funds into FD & Loan accounts since last year's Sept, after the steel run.
You are right in the way that FD is still safer play during uncertained times. I could not see any sign after steel theme no matter how hard I tried to search everywhere.
I don't understand oil & gas business, so I stayed sideway. For those who are not greedy, they should have made good monies in oil boom last year.

Anyway, don't go all in for any stock, if buy, buy progressively & wisely.
If think market is not good, better stay sideline to look & see.

If no drop, how to buy cheaper? If no up, how to sell higher later?
Think like the market, you'll never make money. Always think ahead of market & act differently to the market.

Whether it is fully valued, it's up to the market to decide and anyone can express his feeling about share price.
I always think that market is very emotional, it could be like end of world one week & out of certain, world has never been so good in the next week.
All the time people said: buy low sell high.
The FACTS are:
When price is low, they expect lower & never buy.
When price is high, they expect the price can be higher & never sell.

hng33, do you mind to share the source or the link of the information given by you earlier? Thank you.
U.S. imports steel from more than 100 countries, three-quarters come from just 10 countries. The top supplier to the U.S. are
1. Canada 16%
2. Brazil 13%
3. South Korea 10%
4. Mexico 9%
5. Russia 9%
6. Turkey 7%
7. Japan 5%
8. Taiwan 4%
9. Germany 3%
10 India 2%
China is just outside the list at No. 11 despite producing about half of the world steel.

KYY was misleading readers in writing below, because he had not included the bonus effect over the share price. The impact was not as big as what he described.
Anyhow, I thank him for writing such article to push down the price, I will comment again over the weekend to prove him wrong.
------------------------------------
KYY:
That is why a lot of smart shareholders are dumping their holdings to cut loss. The share price has dropped from Rm 1.80 in early January to close at Rm 1.14 per share. It has dropped 66sen, 37 per cent in less than 2 months. No one knows what the bottom is. I advise all readers not to bottom fish because Masteel’s profit will continue to drop for many more years until all the unsold properties are sold.

Thank you, KYY, for writing the article below.
https://klse.i3investor.com/blogs/koonyewyinblog/149250.jsp
Despite certain matters discussed in the article sound good, but I do not agree with what KYY said, why? I will explain more after getting more information.
KYY has failed in CSCteel even though he had written number of articles about Flat Steel. It proved he was not correct about flat steel. The company's financial results & price movement had confirmed his misjudgement.

Overall, I had 50% in masteel, 25% each in Ann Joo & SSteel and all my targets were hit in Masteel (1.60), Ann Joo (3.80) & SSteel (2.40) & I was busy selling all then, so I didn't have any of it now :)
After that, I bought some VS warrant when it was below 70c. Not much, about 10% of my fund. But now it grows to become 20% of my funds :)
2017-10-19 16:09 | Report Abuse
At that time, my judgement was downside -5% & upside +30%~50% for steel.
As for Pohuat, my judgement was downside -5% with upside +20%~30%. So it worth for me to go in.
You are right, paperplane, warrant will be good alternative.

I have been monitoring Poh Huat since last year and decided to go in when price was RM1.83-1.84 this morning.
The result is fairly good but may not as good as expected by some others, the company has been on the expansion mode & has been incurring capital expenditure to expand production capacity.
The company's revenue has been growing and we will see.

Good sharing from Mr Chong & stockraider, I personally consider the article from Mr Chong & comment from stockraider are indeed very good advices to not only retirees but also to newbies.
For me, I treat stock market as a marketplace for buying & selling ownerships of various businesses. Understanding the businesses and industries will be important for me to choose which companies to invest.

Therefore, the inventories used in the production of rebar during the quarter 30/9/2017 will very likely at the cost as stated in the Quarter 30/6/2017.
Reasons are as follows:
1. Most of inventory was in raw materials
http://klse.i3investor.com/files/my/blog/img/bl2510_notes_to_account_inventory.jpg
2. As per 2016 Annual Report Notes No.9, the raw materials of RM363mil was enough 5 months productions of rebar.
Please take note that as per Jun 2017 QR, the closing stock was RM433mil & most of it was believed as raw materials.

However, please take note that the Cost of Inventories was on FIFO basis, please refer to Accounting Policy of Masteel's Annual Return, instead of Average Cost basis as used in the article:
Inventories are carried in the statement of financial position at the lower of cost and net realisable value. Cost is determined on a first-in first-out (FIFO) basis. The cost of work in progress and finished goods comprises materials, direct labour and attributable production overheads based on normal levels of activity.
Write-down is made for obsolete and slow-moving items based on their expected future use and net realisable value.
Net realisable value is the estimated

May be we can apply discount factor of 40%, Masteel can still earn at least RM115mil from inventory itself.
2017-09-13 15:27 | Report Abuse
Inventory on June 30 was RM433mil & most of it (95% above) was raw materials, based on last 4 years' annual reports (2012-2016).
Since 30/6/2017, Iron scrap price has increased from USD240-270 to last week USD370-390, about 44% up.
Applying % increaed to inventory value, doing nothing Masteel can earn at least RM192mil.
Judge yourself if is Masteel still undervalued at this price?
Your money you decide.
