I have 6 of the 8 selections mentioned above.. Bought not due to Tradeview's input but glad to know we're fellow value traders/investors on the same wavelength. Anyway, am monitoring two of the counters not in my portfolio for an opportune cheap entry. Thanks, Tradeview.

Bought at 5.86. Sold at 3.48 for a 41% loss. Better to get back something than nothing. At least can use the remainder money to buy something else.

Nowadays, Malaysian students learn "Communication English". As long as they can convey the message, they will pass or get an A for their English. Never mind the bad grammar which is not emphasized. The fact that the applicants' English are understood shows they are good: mission accomplished. So, what is the problem?

Do not compare colonial time English with Vision 2020 English.

Another very useful "money cannot buy" information from kind-hearted Calvin. Never selfish in sharing the good things with us. I thought Dr Neoh was going to retire but no, he wants to continue helping us, hence his digital undertaking.

A must have for all old and new investors. Money shouldn't be an object. I agree with Calvin: RM10000 is cheap but it won't cost this amount. In Dr Neoh's favourite words, "IT'S A STEAL!".

Thanks a million, Calvin for the info.

Anyway, congrats Icon8888 for grabbing our attention.

NAV as of 30.12.15 = 3.01
Share Price = 2.31
Net cash per share = 1.86
Paying 0.45 (2.31-1.86) for 1.15 asset (3.01-1.86) is truly a bargain.
Value investors, please take note.

Also City of London Investment Management has been acquiring and accumulating > 20.5 million ICAP shares (14.7%) even up to 21.12.15.These London Fund managers see value in ICAP. Of course they are activitists or opportunists but you can't blame them if they smell money in the making. One day, they might decide to hold an EGM to liquidate ICAP @3.00. So, how can you lose even in this unpopular move?

TTB and his loyal shareowners can wait and wait... while his cash hoard keeps growing and growing. Come the big crash in 2017 or 2018 or whenever, he will sapu the market. After all, value investing needs plenty of patience, discipline and is a very boring business unlike momentum, short term/TA trading.

Those who buy ICAP must know and understand TTB's value investing philosophy. No dividends. Only Long Term Capital appreciation.

I have been with him since IPO 2005, topping up when the price is attractive and my last purchase of ICAP was at 2.32 in early November this year with NAV of 2.90. A deep discount, truly value for money buy.

His portfolio has shares earning good dividends e.g Padini, Wellcal, PIE, Bstead, F&N and Tongher.

ICAP is a real gem unappreciated by Mr Market.

First time investors should just buy ICAP and reap future capital gains.

Another Food For Thought article. I tend to agree we so-called Value Investors are actually Value Traders. The true Value Investors are the real INVESTORS. In short, we are a step short of being INVESTORS. We are Value Traders since we hop from stock to stock with intrinsic values and cash out when the expiry dates are due (fully valued). INVESTORS, however, hold on to good shares forever for their dividends.

Calvintaneng rocks. He has proven record of winners. I bot Jtiasa @ 1.20. He said Supermax @ 2.50 is still cheap. I bot @2.51. He called a buy for NTPM @0.745. I didn't buy. Now queue at 0.83 also cannot get. I have all his other 2016 recommendations and wait for future windfall.
Thank you, Calvintaneng!

icaptal.biz @2.35 is deeply undervalued. With net cash of 1.86, you're paying 0.49 for the remainder portfolio worth 1.08! (NAV 2.94 - cash 1.86.) Value investors should take another look at this counter.

Good combination: Angler, Driftwood/Drifter, Surfer. Will adopt these methods (a form of diversification) to be a successful punter. Thanks for the article.

General

2015-11-22 23:42 | Report Abuse

TTB's closed end fund at 2.35 is undervalued since its Net Asset Value (NAV) is 2.94. With cash at 1.86 per share, this means we are paying only 0.49 for assets (unsold shares in the fund) worth 1.08 (2.94-1.86).

Investors are not happy with its share price selling at a discount of 25% to its NAV. For value investors, buying at a discount in Closed End Fund is like buying blue chip shares at a steep discount. For example, buying Public Bank at 13.50 (25% discount to 18.10) in the present market. Isn't this a bargain? So, why do investors avoid icapital?

icapital does not pay dividend as its objective is long term capital appreciation. Most of its shares under its portfolio pay good dividend (e.g F&N, Boustead, Padini, Wellcall and PIE). So, indirectly icapital shareholders also receive dividends.

Even its strongest critic, City of London Investment Management continues to accumulate icapital. Surely, they see value in it. as they have 14% shareholdings and consistently buying more and more at current prices.

Long term investors may want to look at this unloved ugly duckling that may one day turn into a beautiful swan!

Disclosure: I have shares in icapital.

I hesitated at 1.75, 1.78. 1.83, so I jumped in at 1.86!
Still cheap as estimated value is 12 times earnings of 0.18sen(2014) = 2.16.
Further, NTA = 2.51. Buy and keep for the dividend with potential share price appreciation.

Nobody wins all the time. If we have more winners than losers, than we win in the market. I am putting some money in the latest 10 recommendations by Calvin for 1 - 3 years and see how it turns out.

All the counters have NTA backings, some pay dividends, so there is margin of safety.

We must thank Calvintan for his free research. But we must do some homework before buying. Remember, when we buy, we must accept responsibility and not blame others for our losses.
