TOO MUCH CORRUPTION, BN NEEDS TO TAKE A REST FOR A WHILE’ – EVEN MALAY VOTERS HAVE HAD ENOUGH: IN ‘MOST UNPREDICTABLE GE EVER’, AN UPSET DEFEAT LOOMS AHEAD FOR NAJIB
Politics | May 8, 2018 by | 0 Comments
uala Lumpur – Vicious mud-slinging, allegations of voter fraud and sabotage have marred a hard-fought campaign for Malaysian elections on Wednesday, in which scandal-plagued Prime Minister Najib Razak will take on a heavyweight ex-leader.
Najib’s ruling coalition has governed Malaysia since independence from Britain in 1957 but is facing a tough test at the polls due to a challenge from a former insider — veteran ex-premier Mahathir Mohamad — and the 1MDB financial scandal.
The government is expected to win, partly helped by a healthy economy, however critics say gerrymandering and electoral abuses have also been used to tip the scales in Najib’s favour.
But the surprise return of 92-year-old Mahathir at the head of an alliance filled with parties he crushed during two decades in power has shaken up the race, giving the opposition a charismatic standard-bearer they hope can topple Najib.
“This is the most unpredictable general election in Malaysia for years,” Yang Razali Kassim, a Malaysia expert from the S.Rajaratnam School of International Studies of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, told AFP.
“Mahathir’s comeback has been a game-changer. It reversed the political fortunes of the opposition and shook up the entire political landscape”.
The high stakes have prompted a brutal campaign, in which Najib and Mahathir have relentlessly hurled insults at each other as they raced up and down the country for rallies.
Mahathir has run down Najib, his one-time protege, lambasting him over 1MDB, and taking aim at his wife Rosmah Mansor, whose reportedly spendthrift habits have made her unpopular.
Billions of dollars were allegedly looted from 1MDB, set up by Najib, in a sophisticated money-laundering scheme. The leader and 1MDB deny any wrongdoing.
Najib has hit back, criticising Mahathir’s authoritarian track record when in office.
‘Too much corruption’ As the battle heated up, authorities have increasingly taken aim at the opposition.
Police have started a probe into Mahathir for allegedly breaking a controversial new law against “fake news” after he claimed that a plane he chartered was sabotaged.
Civil society groups have raised the alarm about what they say are attempts by the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition to cheat, including allegations that millions of voters without addresses, as well as dead people, have appeared on the electoral roll.
Critics say one of the clearest attempts to rig the poll came in March when the BN-dominated parliament voted to redraw the electoral map, creating new constituencies dominated by the Muslim Malay majority, who traditionally back the government.
Najib’s party has been accused of running a racially-charged campaign to shore up the support of the Malays, who make up some 60 percent of the population in the multi-ethnic country.
But even many Malay voters have had enough.
“The corruption in BN is too much,” Noorkhallaf Noorazlan, 30, told AFP at an opposition rally in Kuala Lumpur.
“BN needs to take a rest for a while if it wants to reform.”
Najib is under pressure from allies in his United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the main coalition party, to score an emphatic victory after the government lost the popular vote for the first time at the last election in 2013.
Most analysts still think BN will edge victory in the election, for which about 15 million people are registered to vote and 222 parliamentary seats are being contested.
The challenge from Mahathir — a staunch Malay nationalist — is nevertheless a real threat, and is eating into Najib’s Muslim support base.
But some have been put off from voting at all by the unsavoury choice between the current and ex-premiers. Mahathir was also accused of ruling with an iron fist while in power, by throwing opponents in jail and hollowing out the country’s institutions.
Voters have become increasingly disillusioned over recurring graft scandals and divisive racial politics, and in recent times Najib’s problems have only been compounded by the 1MDB scandal.
While the financial controversy has grabbed international headlines, the main concern for many Malaysians is the rising cost of living and stagnant wages.
Number 14 is considered to be the worst number among all the unlucky numbers. The '1' in the number 14 does not represent loneliness; instead it means 'guaranteed'. Therefore, the number would interpret 'guaranteed death'. Though it is pronounced as 'shi si' it means to say 'ten die'; it is also called 'yi si' or 'yao si' which would mean to say 'want to die' In Cantonese, this number is called 'sap ser' which sounds like the words meaning 'certainly die' and in Chiu Chow, number 4 is pronounced differently to mean 'yes' or 'see'. For the different meanings emerging from different regions of China, the number 14 is considered neutral by a few.

Mahathir Is Working Very Hard To Put The People Who Are Going To Finish Him Off In Power
Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng have no plans to make Mahathir the Prime Minister. Enough hints have been given that if the opposition comes to power Mahathir is going to be made to pay for his crimes. Mahathir is going to take Anwar’s place in prison and there are no two ways about it. THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin
The 9th of May 2018 is the day Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng will discard Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, whether they win or lose GE14. Both ways they will no longer have any use for Mahathir. And Nga Kor Ming, Superman Hew Kuan Yau and Ramasamy s/o Palanisamy have made it very clear that they are only using Mahathir to oust Umno and Barisan Nasional and for nothing more than that.
Mahathir is desperately trying to show he is still relevant and is still, as he says, the opposition pact’s ‘Top Dog’. So, he asked Rais Yatim to announce that the opposition pact is going to win GE14 tomorrow and on 30th May 2018 Anwar is going to be released from prison.
Is Rais Yatim, the Umno member, now PKR’s and DAP’s official spokesman?
Actually, Mahathir does not intend to release Anwar even in 2020 if he can — so that ‘release Anwar on 30th May 2018’ is a whole load of nonsense. Anwar is not going to see freedom even by 30th May 2019. Mahathir just made that announcement because he needs to show Malaysians he is the person in charge.
Was Rais talking on behalf of the opposition pact or on behalf of Mahathir? If it was on behalf of the opposition pact then why is Rais the one making that announcement? Is Rais not an Umno member? Since when does Umno decide what the opposition pact does?
On 9th May 2018 the opposition pact is going to learn that votes and not fake news wins elections Now, if Rais was making that announcement NOT on behalf of the opposition pact but on behalf of Mahathir personally, then how come Mahathir decides without any consensus or agreement of PKR, DAP and PAN?
More importantly, have you noticed that Lim Kit Siang has been very quiet for some time? We have not heard a word from him and it is Mahathir plus his so-called Malay Tsunami (Daim Zainuddin, Rafidah Aziz, Rais Yatim and Syed Hamid Albar) who are doing all the talking. Even when Mahathir announces the wrong thing Kit Siang keeps quiet and says nothing.
The opposition pact is not going to make Mahathir the PM and instead will send him to jail Kit Siang and the rest know it is pointless to talk or ‘set the record straight’. There are only a few days left so let Mahathir talk as if he is in charge. Why rock the boat so close to polling day? And then, after 9th May 2018, if the opposition pact wins the general election, they can deal with Mahathir.

NATION Why we must change the Government ByKoon Yew YinPosted on May 8, 2018
COMMENTS All Malaysians must read these 10 commandments before they cast their votes tomorrow. The 10 reasons why we must change the Government are:
The BN Government has been ruling the country for 61 years, since the British gave us independence in 1957. The Government has become too complacent, inefficient, arrogant, autocratic, not democratic, and corrupt. That is why we are still not a developed Nation.
Our Prime Minister, Najib is notoriously corrupt and the whole world knows that. Yet, our police and our anti-corruption agency do not investigate and charge him in court. Tun Dr Mahathir has openly said that Najib has stolen RM 2.6 billion from the Rakyat. Why didn’t Najib sue Dr Mahathir?
If Pakatan Harapan wins in the coming GE14, the new government will investigate and charge him in court. If he is found guilty he will be put in jail. Rosmah must explain how she can afford to spend millions of Ringgit on hand bags and jewelleries. If the court finds her guilty, she will also go to jail.
If PH wins, we will have created a 2-party system of government, namely BN and PH. The 2 parties will have to compete for our votes in every 4 or 5 years in a general election. Then the citizens will become the king makers. We can demand for our rights as citizens. We will vote for the party which has the better policy to serve the people. We must remember, the elected politicians are our servants because we pay their salaries.
PH is a coalition of 4 parties, namely Parti Prebumi, Parti Keadilan, Pati Amanah and DAP. With the exception of DAP all the other 3 parties are Malay controlled. Don’t be afraid of a riot because there will be more Malays in control of the new government. If there is a riot, the Malays will have more to lose because they are much richer now than they were in 1969, the previous riot.
PH has pledged to reform the system of government. PH will repeal all the outdated and oppressive acts such as seditious act by which you can be arrested without trial for a long time.
PH will liberate the freedom of the press so that they can freely criticise the government or any politician for any wrong doing. PH will change the education act. Currently, almost all the government sponsored university places are reserved for the Malays. They do not practice meritocracy.
PH will reform the National Security act. Currently, non-Malays are not accepted in the government civil service, police and arm forces. How can the non-Malays feel secured?
PH has pledged that the Prime Minister can only serve 2 terms. This is an important factor for improving the efficiency of the government. After you have read this, you must circulate it to all your contacts so that they can circulate it to all their contacts. This change reaction will win more votes to change the government. We can create history.
5.08am: (COMMENT) Syukur Alhamdulillah. Praise be to the Almighty for having answered our collective prayers and for having prevailed, to enable us to realise what we wanted to achieve. What seemed almost impossible has happened.
A new day has begun for our beloved Malaysia and Malaysians. A new chapter in our history has started to be written.
Backfire strategy. Official GE result 5.00 am today why need holiday Monday, Tues not today, tomorrow?
Posted by qqq3 > May 10, 2018 07:42 AM | Report Abuse Najib strategy based on fooling voters with Brim money and holidays on Mondays and Tuesday...Najib treats voters with contempt.
As the former Minister of Health n one time Minister of Labour (a casualty in General Elections) departs the corridors of power, one group of workers are having a quiet smile on their faces. They are none other than the bank workers under NUBE and its leader, Mr Joseph Solomon. As I recall, members of NUBE picketed during GE 13 against Dr Subramaniam in Segamat, Johor. I asked them n they told me Dr Subra refused to help them when wage negotiations with the bank entered a deadlock. Worst of all, Dr Subra took the lazy way n just refer the case to the industrial court, unlike the much beloved Dato Lim Ah lek.
I told one of my friends in the banking sector that Dr Subra is retiring from politics and wanted to go back to medicine. My friend answered "go back to medicine"? Just f*** off for good!
