Jawi is just a writing script. You could use it to write in Malay, Urdu, Persian, other than Arabic of course.

Just like Rumi (Roman) script is currently being used to write in many languages, including Malay, apart from Latin or Italian.

We're all using Rumi (Roman) script right now, but that does not make us Romans or even Italians.

even the name 'jawi' is an adjectival reference to 'jawa' (java) rather than the arab lands

@Posted by RiverOfSilver.
When a country is HUGE enough to have a national language, yes, by all means everything is posible in that language. When comes to a tiny weeny country, please look at Singapore. Singapore NATIONAL LANGUAGE is still Malay language, but look at how successful Singapore is when it is open to English and Mandarin!!!

Why learning jawi is a waste of time ??

Say u master jawi....got an A1....do u think....u go arab country u can read & speak arabic or read the Quran ah ??

The answer is big NO loh!

This is bcos msia jawi...is a medium of delivering malay language to us...just like our "rumi" or alphabet delivering the bahasa melayu to us mah....!!

In the case of " rumi or alphabet" it is very much more efficient & easier to learn & understand....thats why Utusan Melayu close down the last jawi malay newspaper in 1970 mah....!!

There is nothing jawi can provide that your rumi cannot do mah!

Learning something on own free will is fun. But why force other who are not interested? Most shit hole countries learned Arabs.

Posted by FortuneBlooming > 2021-04-13 14:07 | Report Abuse

Yep, being able to read jawi does helps a lot in learning arabic, becos jawi is plainly speaking just arabic script

So, you can just plug in something like 'You are very beautiful' into 'google translate' for arabic, then you can say the arabic phrase for it or even whatsapp it to an arab woman who does not speak english but whom you like

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jawi_alphabet#:~:text=Jawi%20was%20developed%20from%20the,used%20during%20Hindu%2DBuddhist%20era.

Jawi is based on the Arabic script, consisting the original 28 Arabic letters, and 6 additional letters constructed to fit the phonemes native to Malay but not found in Classical Arabic, which are (چ /t͡ʃ/, ڠ /ŋ/, ڤ /p/, ݢ /g/, ۏ /v/, and ڽ /ɲ/)

Jawi was developed from the advent of Islam in the Malay world, supplanting the earlier Brahmic scripts used during Hindu-Buddhist era. The oldest evidence of Jawi writing can be found on the 14th century Terengganu Inscription Stone, recorded in Classical Malay language that contains a mixture of Malay, Sanskrit and Arabic vocabularies. There are two competing theories on the origin of Jawi alphabet. Popular theory suggests that the system was developed and derived directly from the Arabic script, while scholars like R.O Windstedt suggest that it was developed through the influence of Perso-Arabic alphabet.[1]

The ensuing trade expansions and the spread of Islam to other areas of Southeast Asia from the 15th century, had brought Jawi alphabet beyond the traditional Malay-speaking world. Until 20th century, Jawi remained as the standard script of the Malay language. The use of Jawi heralded the birth of traditional Malay literature, when it was featured prominently in the royal correspondences, religious texts and literary publications. With the arrival of Western influence through colonization and education, Jawi was relegated to scripts for religious education, with the Malay language eventually adopting the Latin alphabet called Rumi in general usage.

Failed education! When these learning places are not manned by the right people, they produce shameless bullies, irrational thugs and sick-minded racist bigots.......and see school principals who fail to give these of their very products a good lesson and telling off, would instead bow down to the stupendous demands of the racist bigots.

And how a nation can head toward the right direction when kids ......got cheated ...learn cheat mode ... and learn cheating in a humanistically unethical, openly unjust and sinfully inequitable education system.......

In the 21st Century, still we hear some absolutely innocent children; totally rebellious adolescent and mature adults got forced and indoctrinated to choose delusion over rationalism.......faith over evidence........
Some states and countries continue to cheat their people by funding futile way of learning in this age of Google and Wikipedia - memorization, rote learning and scripture recital take priority over cultivating curiosity, creative and critical thinking.

These skills (cultivating curiosity, creative and critical thinking) help students learn, and so they are vital to success in school and beyond:

Children just need to learn Socratic Method of questioning (cultivate curiosity), Plato's Cave (the habit of thinking out-of-the-box) and Epicurean Paradox (systematic examination of factual claims). Teach them to use their own brain effectively, creatively and critically, so that they can adapt to the fast changing global technocratic landscape in order to survive independently; without anyone to keep telling them the list of 'dos' and 'don'ts' in adulthood.

CRITICAL THINKING

A critical thinker is able to deduce consequences from what he knows, and he knows how to make use of information to solve problems, and to seek relevant sources of information to inform himself without a busybody second or third party. Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime!

Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally about what to do or what to believe. It includes the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking. Someone with critical thinking skills is able to do the following:
1. Understand the logical connections between ideas
2. Identify, construct and evaluate arguments
3. Detect inconsistencies and common mistakes in reasoning
4. Solve problems systematically
5. Identify the relevance and importance of ideas
6. Reflect on the justification of one's own beliefs and values

Good critical thinking is the foundation of science and democracy. Science requires the critical use of reason in experimentation and theory confirmation. The proper functioning of a liberal democracy requires citizens who can think critically about social issues to inform their judgments about proper governance and to overcome biases and prejudice.

Critical thinking is a domain-general thinking skill. The ability to think clearly and rationally is important whatever we choose to do. If you work in education, research, finance, management or the legal profession, then critical thinking is obviously important. But critical thinking skills are not restricted to a particular subject area. Being able to think well and solve problems systematically is an asset for any career.

How does fundamentalism hamper critical thinking development, and hijack the course of sapiens' brain development? In moderation, religious and spiritual practices can be great for a person’s life and mental well-being. But religious fundamentalism—is almost has an opposite effect. This is primarily because fundamentalism which refers to the belief in the absolute authority of a religious text and ritual or leaders—and discourages progressive thinking about religion and social issues. Fundamentalist groups generally oppose anything that questions or challenges their beliefs or way of life. For this reason, they are often aggressive towards anyone who does not share their specific set of beliefs, and towards science, as these things are seen as existential threats to their entire worldview.

No we did not copy bm from bi

standard form of bahasa melayu is believed to hv ultimately originated from jambi kingdom aka malayu kingdom, which might hv been the first base of the srivijaya kingdom, which gradually expanded into a federation encompassing several kingdoms in sumatra & malay peninsula, with the major political centre in palembang

srivijaya then allied with mataram-based sailendra in java

there was no 'indonesia' at the time

but different provincial or dialectical forms of bm were also spoken in malay peninsula, even in champa in today's central vietnam

we are all offspring of a common austronesian parent stock which includes borneoans & filipinos also
