MANCHESTER United's famed Class of '92 have sold a 50 per cent stake in hometown club Salford City to Singapore billionaire Peter Lim, The Straits Times has learnt.

The team, which currently plays in the eighth tier of English football, were recently purchased by former Red Devils Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Gary and Phil Neville, who have a grand plan of transforming the club into a Premier League outfit in the long run.

The quintet will each retain a 10 per cent stake in City, although the deal with Lim remains subject to approval from England's Football Association.


Lim, 61, is also in the midst of acquiring top-tier Spanish side Valencia for €420 million (S$720 million), after previously losing out in a bid for English giants Liverpool.
