In a professionally run company, I am sure the departmental heads will iron out whatever differences in meetings chaired by the GM or CEO. Civilized people like us don't resort to violence.

Salary review is usually conducted after performance appraisal of individual employee at the end of the year (or maybe plus middle of the year). Some employees are outstanding performers while others are just average. This process, as part of the HR, is supposed to be P&C. First time I heard the entire department requested for salary increase.

Head hunting of staff in competitor companies happens all the time and across all industries as well. Each and every company is facing such issue of retaining good staff.
