Moody's affirms AmBank's A3 rating but revises outlook to negative following 1MDB settlement
KUALA LUMPUR (March 12): Moody's Investors Service has affirmed AmBank (M) Bhd's (AmBank) A3 long-term foreign currency deposit rating and AmBank's baa2 Baseline Credit Assessment (BCA), but revised its rating outlook to negative from stable, following its 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) settlement.
In a statement, Moody's said the rating action follows AMMB Holdings Bhd's (AmBank Group) RM2.83 billion settlement with the government of Malaysia in relation to its involvement with 1MDB.
The affirmation of AmBank's A3 rating incorporates Moody's assessment of a very high likelihood of support from the government of Malaysia in times of need.
This results in a two-notch uplift from the bank's baa2 BCA, based on AmBank Group's systemic importance as the sixth-largest banking group in Malaysia by assets, with AmBank as the group's main operating entity," it said.
Moody's also said the negative outlook reflects uncertainty over AmBank's ability to restore its capitalisation to pre-settlement levels over the next 12-18 months.
AmBank will absorb the bulk of the large settlement at a time when it is facing a slowdown in its internal capital generation due to rising credit costs.
The recovery in its capitalisation will depend on AmBank Group's divestitures, the timing of which is uncertain, and regulatory approval for its plans to implement risk-weighted asset optimisation via the foundation internal rating based approach in April 2022," it said.
However, it said, the reduction in AmBank's capital will be partly offset by an immediate equity injection from AmBank Group, as the group plans to maintain AmBank's common equity tier 1 (CET1) above an internal threshold of 10.5%.
As a result, AmBank's proforma CET1 ratio will fall to 11.0% from 13.1% as of Dec 31, 2020, it said.
Moody's also said the settlement will not materially affect AmBank's liquidity. "In addition to the capital injection from AmBank Group, AmBank is planning to issue Tier 2 bonds that will largely offset the related cash outflow," it noted.
Moody's further said today's rating action reflects the impact of AmBank Group's due diligence lapses in 1MDB-related capital market transactions that occurred more than a decade ago.
In addition to more traditional areas of risk management, Moody's said it considers due diligence and other non-financial risks an important part of effective governance.
However, since 2015, a new board and management team have been appointed, and the group has undertaken a number of corrective measures to strengthen its internal processes, including a remediation programme overseen by the local regulator.
The settlement will also clear the group of any further claims from the Malaysian government and its agencies," it noted.

US surpasses 100M vaccinations; IRS begins sending first round of $1,400 relief payments: COVID-19 updates

USA TODAY

The U.S. on Friday reported administering its 100 millionth COVID-19 vaccine as the World Health Organization reported 300 million global shots have been given.

About 1 in 4 U.S. adults have received at least one shot, and about 1 in 10 is fully vaccinated, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. An average of 2.2 million doses are being administered per day, up from about 1 million doses a day in mid-January.

Ramping up vaccinations is key to President Joe Biden's goal of friends and families being able to join together in small groups for Fourth of July celebrations. "July 4th with your loved ones is the goal," Biden said Thursday, stressing that "a lot can happen. Conditions can change."

Total 7 senior executives at AMMB Holdings Bhd (AmBank) sold their shares in late December 2020 (sold almost the same time). Group chief internal auditor Shamsul Bahrom Mohamed Ibrahim sold 48,000 shares at RM3.65 per share. Auditor but behaved like this...is there someone v can still trust? you think about it :)

R u sure you want invest your hard earned money here?

BNM/SC/CHAIRMAN/CEO not taking action against Group chief internal auditor or 7 of them? This is not fair to minority shareholders! Insider trading? You cover me, I cover you?

Yes inari is a growth company in technology sector something like gloves company in health sector loh...!!

REMEMBER TO SWITCH TO INSAS LOH!

Insas is a wealth creation company holding rm 2 billion worth of inari share compare to insas mkt cap of only rm 603m mah...!!

Do u notice of INSAS huge margin of safety or not leh ??

So if u invest in insas, u have both huge margin of safety of insas & huge earnings growth thru inari mah...!!

This monkey stockraider reminds of me the frog under the coconut husk. If you haven't noticed Tech is already on a downtrend, not even 'going to'. Your Insas has missed the uptrend where it's share price did not move whatsoever even as Inari went up. And your cash in Insas is useless since you can see it but you will never be able to touch and it will never be shared with you. Insas' pittance of a dividend says everything. Please save yourself some dignity and do not equate Berkshire with the value trap and vastly inferior Insas - Berkshire returns profits to shareholders via a massive share buyback program (dividends are not the only way to reward shareholders). Insas on the other hand announced a rights issue ha ha ha

Insas is a value trap (and has been since ages and which looks set to continue since there has been zero changes to Management) where the opportunity costs would mean you are unable to earn any returns and where your money sits idle while Genting keeps on growing and rewards it's shareholders with dividends, even during bad times

It's clear to everyone which is vastly superior

Gaming is forever and eternal and Genting will once again show it's enduring quality in 2021, the Year of the Ox, the Year if the Super Bull

Agreed, this group of mgt should resign and heavier punishment for Group Chief Internal Auditor Shamsul Bahrom Mohamed Ibrahim.

She or he is supposed to hold the highest integrity, ethic, zero mistakes, and transparency person inside the Bank.

BNM/SC/CEO/External auditor must change the entire senior Internal Auditor Team too. I highly doubt the current entire senior Internal Auditor integrity and cleanness.

There is no way out other than a merger with the bigger bank since the existing mgt cannot manage the bank well and created so much shit for shareholders.

Dow futures rise as stocks point to strong open on Monday

(PUBLISHED SUN, MAR 14 20216:02 PM EDTUPDATED SUN, MAR 14 20217:42 PM EDT)

U.S. stock futures moved higher in overnight trading and pointed to gains at the open on Monday, continuing last week’s rally that led the Dow and S&P 500 to record highs.

Dow futures rose 120 points. S&P 500 futures gained 0.25% and Nasdaq 100 futures rose 0.2%.

Stocks rose last week with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 4% and the S&P 500 gaining 2.6%. The S&P 500 and the Dow both closed at record highs Friday.

The Nasdaq Composite advanced 3% last week, despite a sell-off on Friday spurred by rising interest rates. The jump in bond yields has challenged growth stocks in recent weeks and sent investors into cyclical pockets of the market. The Nasdaq is up less than 1% this month, while the Dow and S&P are up 6% and 3.5%, respectively.

The U.S. 10-year Treasury hit its highest level in more than a year on Friday. The benchmark Treasury note reached 1.642%, its highest level since February 2020.

The small-cap benchmark Russell 2000 surged more than 7% last week as investors rotated into smaller stocks that benefit from a sharp economic comeback.

Last week, investors cheered the $1.9 trillion stimulus package that President Joe Biden signed into law. The IRS started processing $1,400 direct payments on Friday and checks started hitting bank accounts over the weekend. The bill will also put nearly $20 billion into Covid-19 vaccinations and $350 billion into state, local and tribal government relief.

Investors will be gearing up for Tuesday and Wednesday’s Federal Open Market Committee meeting where the Federal Reserve will deliver its decision on interest rates. The bond market in the coming week will likely take its cues from the Federal Reserve.

The central bank is expected to acknowledge much better growth in the economy. Bond pros are also watching to see whether Fed officials will tweak their interest rate outlook, which now does not include any rate hikes through 2023.

Goldman Sachs chief economist David Kostin told clients on Sunday that he expects interest rates to continue to rise in the coming months and investors will have to “continually grapple with the anxiety about economic overheating and Fed tightening.”

On the vaccine front, Biden announced last week that he would direct states to make all adults eligible for the vaccine by May 1. Biden also set a goal for Americans to be able to gather in person with their friends and loved ones in small groups to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Retailers should had known better when ANZ share price was unaffected by this news, but continued to break higher than pre-covid price. Banks worldwide are rallying (rotating from growth into value stocks). Once the operators have collected enough, AMMB will too break higher than pre-covid peak
