India Covid Cases Highlights: India for the first time reported 'Omicron' cases with two cases being detected in Karnataka.

New Delhi: India logged a daily spike of 9,216 Covid cases today, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,46,15,757. The active cases increased to 99,976, the Health Ministry data showed.

India also for the first time reported 'Omicron' cases with two cases being detected in Karnataka. The new strain of the virus has triggered a global alarm with several countries announcing restrictions to arrest the spread of the 'Variant of Concern', declared by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The variant was first detected in South Africa earlier this month. Since then, the new strain has already been detected in several European countries. 'Omicron' is said to be much more infectious than the Delta variant.

Omicron Spreading in U.S.; Gilead Recalls Vials: Virus Update

The omicron variant is now in at least 10 U.S. states, and White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci said there is “absolutely” community spread. Gilead Sciences Inc. recalled two lots of its Covid-19 drug remdesivir in the U.S. after a complaint about glass particles in the vials.

The states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Maryland and Nebraska reported omicron infections on Friday, and cases are guaranteed to keep on rising in the coming days, according to Fauci. Covid-19 infections in the U.S. have reached the highest level in two months.

Coronavirus: UK tightens travel rules amid Omicron spread

The Department of Health and Social Care later said 21 Omicron cases linked to Nigerian travel had been discovered in recent days.

A further 26 Omicron cases - of which 25 were recorded in England and one in Scotland - were confirmed in the UK on Saturday.

Those cases took the total for England to 129. Scotland has so far recorded 30 cases while one case was identified in Wales, bringing the total for the UK as a whole to 160.

Apparently, no Omicron positive patient has so far ended up in the hospital, let alone died.

Anecdotal evidence from doctors treating it in Africa, Europe and Asia is that patients are either asymptomatic or the symptoms are much milder than the Delta variant.

If that is the case (a big IF), Omicron may paradoxically start the end of the pandemic by replacing Delta with a strain, yes, more contagious but way less lethal. In that, its alleged higher transmission rate would be an advantage.

Either way, the hysterical and panicked reactions that we see everywhere are completely misplaced and unwarranted. One has to be cautious while remaining rational.

Needless to say, the press coverage worldwide has been shameless. Don't let them take you for a ride - stay calm, get information from trusted sources and carry on with your life.

It is still worrying as the number don't go down, we are just lying to ourself that covid will become like flu, this is too infectious, trying to said less people in the hospital does not show we are already good, that is just the beginning only as we fail to stomp out the virus which we grow numb to the number instead.....

Covid: Omicron spreading in the community, Javid confirms

There is community transmission of the Omicron coronavirus variant in multiple regions of England, Health Secretary Sajid Javid has confirmed.

He told MPs the variant was continuing to spread "here and around the world" and there were now cases here "with no links to international travel".

There have been 336 confirmed cases of the highly-mutated variant across the UK, he said, a rise of 90 from Sunday.
