Today, Utusan shares pared losses at 7.5 sen at 11:33am with 965,800 units transacted. Over the last one year, the stock had fallen to current levels after reaching its intraday high at 31 sen on Feb 11, 2019.

Utusan shares' highest price on record was RM7.66 on March 31, 2000.

It is learnt that its editorial staff, in a special briefing yesterday, were told that the company no longer had the financial means to continue its operations, and as such, would bid farewell to its print operations.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, a worker said the briefing was conducted by Kosmo! editor Lokman Othman, who conveyed the news.

An audio clip of the briefing by Lokman was made available to the NST.

“Our last paper will be published on the day after tomorrow (Wednesday). On the front page, there will be a notice to inform readers that we will cease publication on Wednesday.

“This means that tomorrow (today) we will work for the Wednesday publication. After that, we don’t have to work.”

It is learnt that they were told that new investors were interested in acquiring the newspaper.

However, the staff were also told that this could mean that the workforce would be trimmed substantially.

They were told the company’s online operations would continue. However, any return of Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo!’s print editions might need only 60 employees from Utusan and 60 from Kosmo! from its present workforce of 800.

Malaysian Trades Union Congress secretary-general J Solomon lambasted Umno politicians who have allegedly ignored Utusan Malaysia staff’s plight despite having benefitted from the daily’s coverage since its inception.

Former Kulim-Bandar Baharu member of parliament from Umno Datuk Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir’s investment vehicle Opulence Asia Sdn Bhd bought the 30% stake from Umno, making him the largest shareholder currently.

Another substantial shareholder is Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary with a 19.72% stake in Utusan.

Syed Mokhtar has been in the spotlight recently after continuously raising his shareholding in Media Prima Bhd. The tycoon, who owns The Malaysian Reserve, emerged as Media Prima’s largest shareholder with a 19.5% stake last month.

Benda boleh salahkan PH..buat apa salahkan Umno padahal Utusan lidah rasmi Umno yang banyak jasa kepada Umno.

Pegangan saham Umno masih ada dalam Utusan dan Utusan juga telah melahirkan ramai jutawan Umno..takkan puak Umno tak boleh nak bantu Utusan.

Alat propaganda Umno paling banyak kena bayar saman fitnah semata² nak jaga imej Umno. Bila utusan minta bantuan, pemimpin Umno tak nak ambil sikap bertanggungjawab..tak payahlah nak putar sana sini.

Apa nak susah?!! Minta la derma sorang Rm1 dari macai² Umno dan kawan baik Pas banyak duit ahli mereka..suruh la pemimpin Pas minta ahli² walaun, mesti pakat derma punyalah.. tak percaya tanya Harakah..

Utusan dah nak mampus..Kah kah kah kah kah kah kah kah kah...
