Incorporated in May of 1993, Alam Sekitar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (ASMA) is a subsidiary of the Progressive Impact Corporation Group of Companies that specializing in environmental monitoring and consultancy. On the company's future plans, Hassan said it planned to venture into waste management, an area he expected to grow significantly over the next 15 years due to rising consumer awareness of the need to protect the environment.

“We plan to go into waste management because people today are aware that it is critical for environment protection,” he said. .

Hassan said the company would also seek to strengthen its presence in the region, including Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. In addition, it was working to widen its customer base.

PICorp currently provides services to the public sector as well as private companies in the power, utility, oil and gas, and food industries.

Shah Alam: Progressive Impact Corp Bhd (Picorp) sees better demand for its products this year as plants and factories nationwide rush to comply with Department of Environment's stricter air pollution regulation by July 2019.

"Plants and factories that emit smoke are placing order for our equipments and softwares in preparation to comply with stricter control of air pollution," said Picorp group executive director Datuk Dr Lukman Ibrahim.


"The Department of Environment will start to enforce fully the Environmental Quality Regulations (Clean Air) 2014 starting July 2019," he told reporters after the company's shareholders' meeting here today.

"Our predictive emissions monitoring system is certified by the Department of Environment. So, plants and factories using our products are assured of compliance to the stricter clean air regulation," he said.

Also present was Picorp chief financial officer Nadzrah Hashim. She noted that last year, Picorp posted RM1.0 million in profits on the back of RM83.88 million in revenue.


In the first quarter ended March 2018, Picorp's business had already shown improvement with RM1.38 million in profits on the back of RM22.21 million in revenue.

In 2014, the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry formulated the Environmental Quality Regulations (Clean Air) 2014 to incorporate the latest pollution control technology and standards adopted by developed countries.

The government gave plants and factories emitting smoke five years of preparation until 1st July 2019 to comply with the stricter control over air pollution.


Among sectors that are mandated to invest in cleaner technologies to satisfy this new requirement are coal-fired power plants and steel mills.

Lukman went on the say that Picorp's business in Indonesia is also set to gain from the Indonesian government requlation mandating oil companies to rehabilitate soil conditions around oil fields, after they finished drilling.

"When oil companies have finished and are to surrender back the oil fields, they must, under Indonesian law, carry out soil remediation. That's where we come in to provide the solution to meet environment safety," he said.

"On the whole, we're optimistic of doing better this year, thanks to these captive markets for our products to comply with a safer and cleaner environment," Lukman added.

KUALA LUMPUR (April 4): Public Investment Bank expects to see the potential capital inflow from China benefiting the high-tech manufacturing sector followed by digital economy, which could potentially lead to the growth of non-residential industrial buildings, including electrical and electronic factories and data centres, and special trades like earthworks, and construction activities from the RM170 billion investment from China.

In a note on Tuesday (April 4), the research house said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, together with his entourage, yielded RM170 billion worth of investments from his visit to China over the weekend.

It said the four-day official visit witnessed the signing of 19 memorandums of understanding between Chinese and Malaysia companies.

However, it said details on the RM170 billion investment remain fuzzy.

“We expect activities to pick up in 2H2023 (second half of 2023) onwards in addition to the rollout of MRT3 coupled with the expediting of public infrastructure projects in East Malaysia,” it said.

The research house retained its sector top picks, Gamuda Bhd (outperform, target price [TP]: RM5.10) and IJM Corp Bhd (outperform, TP: RM1.97), for their strong civil engineering capability and track record in “design and build”.

“Both companies are lowly geared, with Gamuda at 0.17 times as of 2QFY2023 (second quarter of financial year 2023) and IJM at 0.24 times as of 3QFY2023.

“Outstanding construction orderbook for all stocks in our universe remain optimal at three to four years, with Gamuda having a record-breaking orderbook of RM20.5 billion,” it said.

KUALA LUMPUR (May 25): Bursa Malaysia's most-active stock Progressive Impact Corp Bhd's price surged as much as 60% yesterday, before ending the day 35.71% higher, while its volume exhibited a rare jump to above 400 million units.

The environmental services provider's share-trade volume jumped to 482.62 million units from 25.12 million yesterday.

The stock's price surged as much as 8.5 sen or 60% to 22.5 sen, before paring gains to close at 19 sen — five sen or 35.17% higher — translating into a market capitalisation of RM124.5 million.

Reasons behind Progressive Impact's share price and volume rise could not be immediately ascertained at the time of writing.

A glance across Progressive Impact's share-trade volume chart over the last one year showed two notable jumps in the stock's volume. Prior to today's surge, a notable rise was seen on March 2, 2021 when the stock's volume climbed to 154.46 million units from 1.38 million a day earlier.

According to Progressive Impact's latest Bursa filing on May 4, 2021, the company on April 22, 2021 bought back 260,000 shares on the open market for RM34,246.17.

Progressive Impact said it paid between 13 sen and 13.5 sen for each share bought back.

The company has also provided more updates on its proposed final dividend of 0.3 sen a share for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2020.
