Aluminium contract negotiations for 2015 in the USA have kicked off ahead of schedule, market participants told Metal Bulletin sister publication AMM, citing noticeable upticks in demand and growing concerns over long-term availability of the material.
Supply concerns are furled by a recent spike in aluminium demand, largely stemming from Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford Motor Co's transition to aluminium in its 2015 F-150 pickup, one aluminium trader said. "People are generally starting to believe that capacity is going to be a huge problem in 2015 and beyond," he said. "The metal is in tight hands and big buyers are absolutely not messing around this year....

Aluminium European aluminium consumers began to book forward volumes last week after a dip in London Metal Exchange prices, but most contract business for the fourth quarter and 2015 is still to be done. Market participants have full diaries for Metal Bulletin's 29th International Aluminium conference in Abu Dhabi this week, and a more traditional mating season is on the cards after some unusual buying patterns over the past few years. European premiums have risen in the past two weeks on inter-trade business. With consumers returning to the market in force in the coming days and weeks, and high premiums in other regions, those premiums are expected to rise further through the fourth quarter. Buyers and sellers will be looking to settle the key Asian premium benchmark for October-December delivery to the main Japanese ports (MJP) at Metal Bulletin's aluminium conference in Abu Dhabi, which starts with a reception on Monday September...
According to Automotive News, the Toyota Camry is set to receive an aluminum hood in 2018. Before the Camry gets its new hood though, Toyota’s luxury arm Lexus will use the lightweight material for the hood and liftgate of the 2016 Lexus RX 350.
“Toyota has plans to use aluminum on future vehicles for hood, closures and parts for lightweighting,” said spokeswoman Jana Hartline. “Also, we will increase usage of mix metals and resin materials to enhance lightweighting efforts.” In Japan, Toyota already uses aluminum in a few of its vehicles including the Prius and most Lexus sedans.

1. Price sitting below Bollinger band which expanded 22% - no good 2. MACD being pressed down - as expected - Good 3. Timing indicators low - Good
Trading Expectation tomorrow: 1. Price may dip momentarily tomorrow morning and then start to rebound. 2. It must close with a green tomorrow to maintain its uptrend. 3. If the above criteria is met, then it might move up 2nd.leg. else, bad.
4. Bad doesn't mean end of game. It means that it may take a slightly longer rest say 1 extra week before attempting to move up. Since it has been moving up without taking a break, they may do it now if they wanted it. We can only know by tomorrow's closing.
MB ALUMINIUM CONF: High premiums could block smelter restarts
While high aluminium premiums have returned western aluminium producers to profitability over the past year, they are likely to impede any smelter restarts, traders said on the sidelines of Metal Bulletin’s 29th International Aluminium Conference in Abu Dhabi. About 6 million tpy of aluminium production has been shuttered in the past six years, UC Rusal's first deputy ceo, Vladislav Soloviev, said at the conference. "About 60% of that will not restart, but the rest could," he told delegates. The all-in price of aluminium is about $2,400 per tonne,...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MB ALUMINIUM CONF: Global aluminium premiums will not fall in near term
Global aluminium premiums show absolutely no signs of falling in the near future, delegates said at Metal Bulletin’s 29th International Aluminium conference in Abu Dhabi. Demand, which has driven premium increases over the last year, is set to grow faster than aluminium production in the coming years, exacerbating the supply tightness that market participants are already struggling with. "Demand will rise 6-7% this year.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MB ALUMINIUM CONF: Most idled Al capacity will not be restarted – Soloviev
The majority of the aluminium capacity idled during the economic downturn will probably not be restarted, the first deputy ceo of UC Rusal told Metal Bulletin. Vladislav Soloviev said that about 60% of Rusal's idle capacity (600,000 tpy) and a similar level of other shuttered smelting production is expected to stay offline. "It will depend on the price: if prices became very high then maybe we'd come back to this question," he said. "But as of today, and for the next three or four years, I don't see any restarts." Rusal's own capacity will likely shift to Siberia, where access to hydropower is available and logistics are well situated. Soloviev said that 60-65% of capacity in the broader industry looks also unlikely to be restarted. And to restart the remaining capacity will take time,...
