Saudi Aramco shelves plans for Malaysia venture with Petronas: sources

KUWAIT: Saudi Aramco has shelved plans for a multi-billion-dollar refining and petrochemical joint venture with Petronas in Malaysia, industry sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on today.

The Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) at Pengerang in Johor was to have had a 300,000-barrel-per-day refinery and petrochemical complex with a chemical output capacity of 7.7 million metric tonnes.

Other facilities at the site, which was to have started operations in the first quarter of 2019, were to have included a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal.

The sources did not say why Aramco's participation on the project had been put on hold. Aramco and Petronas officials could not be reached for immediate comment.

Petronas last year sought proposals for a US$7.2 billion loan for the project, with separate guarantees from the company and Aramco, Thomson Reuters IFR reported in June.

Energy companies have seen their finances squeezed by a two-year slump in global oil prices, prompting many to cut costs.

In early 2016, Petronas said it would cut spending by up to RM50bil over the next four years. -- Reuters

year 2017 definitely will be construction stock year , for those company showing good profit & huge order book will bull run. Jak is one the company start bull run.


i am confident gadang will secure more project within this few month . so dumb dumb hold is a best strategy to win big.

So far tech stocks have been outperforming the market, but commodities and construction companies stocks have just started consolidating. As Malaysian economy is heavily dependent on commodities and construction business, commodities and construction companies stocks need to perform well when overall Malaysian stocks consolidate.

There is a sign where overall Malaysian stocks (KLSE) started consolidating. That's why commodities and construction companies stocks have just started consolidating. Commodities and construction companies stocks are behind tech stocks, but they will surely consolidate when overall Malaysian stocks consolidate.

If Gadang can get any of the mrt2, lrt3 or Hospital project.... It sure will shoot up... if u got insider info or u believe Gadang will sure get at least one project... u sure can buy in now... with Gadang release a very good Q2 result, i dont see Gadang will big fall anytime soon unless got some very bad news come out.. so the down side is low but the upside is very high ^^ However u must do ur own research b4 u choose to buy, sell or hold.
