PHLX Semiconductor Index: Semiconductor index with buy-signal!

Since the beginning of 2016, a clear upward trend has dominated the course of the US semiconductor index PHLX and produced a gain of over 140 percent in the barometer. On Wednesday, the index has broken above its highs from 2017 and has thereby set up a fresh follow-up buy signal.

At the same time, this also brought buyers to the scene in this country and spawned a price leap in numerous German technology titles. As a result, technology stocks tend to become more interesting again in the coming weeks and can be traded on the upper side via corresponding long instruments.

Direct price gains up to the upper trend limit of roughly 1,400 points would be quite feasible in the coming days.

I realised that regarding KESM its PBT tells more about their growth story than its net profit does as the variance of PBT is smaller. Its net profit is not very reliable.

The below is the transition of their PBT.

11,172-->11,602 (up 3.8% QoQ) ->12,251 (up 5.6% QoQ)->12,818 (up 4.6% QoQ)->13,454 (up 5% QoQ)

All figures in '000 unless specified.

Average: (3.8+5.6+4.6+5)/4= 4.75 (%)
Last QR :5%

After calculating the average increase rate of PBT QoQ, I reached a conclusion that the last QR has nothing wrong.

There is nothing to show that KESM's growth story has to make a course correction

If Kesm's net profit grows 15% per year over 3 years, a P/E of around 23 would be appropriate.

If Kesm's net profit grows 10% per year over 3 years, a P/E of around 20 would be appropriate.

KESM is principally involved in specialized electronic manufacturing activities. More specifically, the company is engaged in providing burn-in services. The company has business dealings with virtually all the American semiconductor manufacturers.

Some of Wall Street’s most influential investors are eyeing energy and technology plays as the bull market hums on.

Asked for their best stock picks as part of Barron’s 2018 roundtable discussion, Jeffrey Gundlach, Abby Joseph Cohen, Delphi Management founder Scott Black and other panelists championed technology and energy companies they see profiting from rising tides in those industries.

Four of the nine participants highlighted companies tied in some way to semiconductors, from Samsung Electronics Co. -- Cohen’s pick -- to Lam Research Corp., favored by Black, which manufactures semiconductor processing equipment used in making circuits.

“People are still living in the past. They retain a notion from 1995 to 2000 that semiconductor-equipment manufacturing is wildly cyclical and a bad business," Paul Wick, lead manager of the Columbia Seligman Communications & Information Fund at Columbia Threadneedle Investments. He pitched Micron Technology Inc. “In fact, the chip industry has become much less volatile."
