#JJchan Forex Gain will be a significant number for many Qr to come. Reason is most running projects rate base rate is 3.8--3.9 and now to end 2022 Malaysia / USA rate will be 4.4++ Dont expect Malaysia interest will surge faster than USA FED rate.
Since SAP, Buy Raw Material / Income / Salary( foreign) / Borrow are all in US$.....SAP Cash Account will
benefit significantly. This is the main reason SAP cash flow was in trouble when Oil crash below $50

Just to add..

Unlike SD, most Sap losses are impairment losses ( not cash losses). If Sap losses ( if Real ), Bankers will want their money back immediately. This impairment can be write back if they can step up to the next level...

So we can definitely expect more good news cumming in the pipelines..

Correction on forex gain or loss.

In company books like SE, should have realized and unrealized forex gain/loss.

Means to say, this entry in books is updated periodically.. not accrued until completion of project.

As JJChan indicated, if SE base rate is RM3.8/3.9, that rate is around year 2015. So, the next 7 years till 2022, its updated annually in SE books as Realized and Unrealized portion.

So in summary, never too big a gain and never too big a loss in Forex.

The Edge 27 Jun 2022......

KUALA LUMPUR (June 27): Financially troubled Sapura Energy Bhd returned to the black in the first quarter ended April 30, 2022 (1QFY23) with a net profit of RM91.93 million, on the back of foreign exchange gains arising from the appreciation of the US dollar against the ringgit.

In the preceding quarter, it had posted its biggest ever net loss of RM6.78 billion.

In the same period last year, Sapura Energy had posted a net loss of RM97.08 million.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing on Monday (June 27), the oil and gas service provider said its quarterly revenue, however, declined by 39.75% to RM886.08 million against RM1.47 billion in the year-ago corresponding period, due to lower project activities from its engineering and procurement (E&C) segment.

Kenanga Research opined
1.The group still carries an unsustainably high debt of about RM10.7 billion – all of which are classified as short-term borrowings in its balance sheet, with the group having recently written off 99 per cent its equity book value in financial year 2022 (FY22)

2. Sapura Energy was still finding access to credit facilities incredibly challenging given its dire financials.

3. continuing its restructuring efforts in order to remain afloat
a., renegotiation of its legacy contracts
b. nego with lenders over its debts,
c. implementation of a divestment plan.

4.On a more positive note, the group had recently managed a successful drawdown of a RM300 million working capital loan, securitised against the proceeds of disposal of its Sapura 3000 asset, which is expected to be completed in July.

5 Breathing space -expected to help ease its liquidity issues at least for the next couple of months

6. Kenanga Research maintained an "Underperform" call on the stock with unchanged target price of half a sen.

7.Post-results, the firm lowered its FY23 and FY24 loss assumption by 18 per cent and 22 per cent respectively, after adjusting for better E&C contributions. - this can be interpret SE mngmt itself admitted of anticipated loss FY23 and F24........ meaning the company is still on NON profiteering ......takes another2-3 years if all goes well...thats facts
