Top 10 Stocks in Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio; and the Malaysian Context

Malaysia's National Day is coming. What stocks could be the Malaysian version of Berkshire Hathaway's Top 10 holdings? 

 

In Malaysia, there's no exact equivalent, but here are some relevant ones: (underlined bolded stock names are the Top 10 stocks of Berkshire's portfolio.)

 

a. Apple is a consumer tech company.

Relevant Malaysian stocks include GTRONIC, MPI, UNISEM, VSTECS. VSTECS' business is mainly distribution of ICT products while the other three are mainly involved in manufacturing tech components. b. Bank of America & US Bancorp are US banks, one of Buffett's favourite sectors.

Malaysian banking stocks include PBB, MAYBANK, ABMB, etc. (refer Annual Reports for more detailed breakdown of business)

 

c. American Express & Moody's are mainly in credit card business & credit rating business.

While CTOS could be relevant to Moody's, JOHAN has sold off Diners Club Singapore segment. 

 

d. Coca-Cola & Kraft-Heinz are mainly consumer F&B businesses.

Malaysian F&B stocks include notable names like F&N, Nestle, QL

 

e. Verizon is a US telecommunications giant.

Malaysian heavyweight telcos include: AXIATA, MAXIS, DIGI.

 

f. BYD is China's leading EV company, while DaVita specialises in kidney dialysis.

GREATECD&O are some proxies of EV while companies in kidney dialysis aren't listed.
