ATT Tanjung Bin oilterminal gets first cargo
The newly-built ATT Tanjung Bin (ATB) oil terminal near Portof Tanjung Pelepas in Johor has started operations after receiving its firstfuel oil cargo earlier last week. The terminal, owned and operated by VTTI, a50:50 joint venture between Vitol and MISC Bhd, received its first fuel oilcargo from the MT Kition, a 100,000 deadweight tonne tanker on April 10. ATBoil terminal is a grassroot project which began construction in September 2009.The first phase consists of 41 storage tanks, totaling 841,000 cu metres (cu m)of storage for fuel oil, petroleum and middle distillates. VTTI said that workon the terminal's fuel oil tanks is completed, while work on the middledistillates and petroleum tanks, are nearing completion and will be availablefor commercial use later this month. Phase 1 of the ATB facility is designed tohandle 20 million tonnes of oil products a year, accommodating five seagoingtankers at once, and providing service to its customers around the clock.  A VTTI spokesman said fuel oil can be loadedat a rate of 7,500 cu m/hour, middle distillates at 7,000 cu m/hour and lightends at 5,500 cu m/hour. Unit teams up withUK-based Xchanging
YTL Communications, a subsidiary of YTL Power InternationalBhd, and Xchanging, a UK-based business process and technology servicesprovider, are to form a joint venture (JV) company to develop and deliverenhanced mobile Internet and cloudbased hosting offerings in Malaysia. Known asXchanging Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the 50-50 joint venture will combine Xchanging'stechnology, delivery expertise and international domain knowledge with YTLCommunications' award-winning 4G network and market reach to delivernextgeneration, mission-critical cloud solutions and platforms. YTLCommunications chief executive officer Wing K. Lee said through such collaboration,Xchanging will bring to the venture a wealth of systems integration experienceand best practices. Xchanging is a business process and technology serviceprovider and integrator specialising in financial services, technology andprocurement processing skills and capabilities to other vertical industry andmarket sectors. To expand Unificoverage to 1.3 mln premise passes by year-end
Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) aims to expand its Unifihigh-speed fibre optic broadband coverage to 1.3 million premise passes byyear-end in an effort to provide better services to customers. Currently, thetelecommunication giant has 1.2 million premise passes and 320,000 customersnationwide. Chief Executive Officer Datuk Zamzairani Mohd Isa said the effortwas in line with the company's aspiration of making 2012 the year forcustomers' experience. He said among the efforts put in place, was thetransformation of its frontline touch point such as TMpoint (the one-stopcentre), call centres and also technicians that deal with customers directly. Forthe business community, he said the company will add Hypp.TV, the Internet protocoltelevision service, into UniFi's business package in July to add more value toexisting services.
