The older Taiwanese can still remember how the Japanese invaded China and Taiwan. The Japanese occupied Taiwan for 50 years from 1895 – 1945 and renamed it Formosa. When the Japanese were defeated in the World War II, Taiwan was placed under the governance of the Republic of China (ROC), ruled by the Kuomintang (KMT), on 25 October 1945.
These older Taiwanese would like Taiwan to unify with China.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) is the largest chip manufacturer in the world as you can see above.
All the younger Taiwanese know their roots. Almost all their fore fathers came from China. Most of the younger Taiwanese are involved in the computer chip invention, production and sale. Since China is the biggest market for chips, they also would like Taiwan to unify with China.
Taiwan’s remarkable economic performance in 2020 is something to celebrate given most countries globally plunged into recession because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Taiwan’s GDP increased by 3.11 per cent in 2020 compared to the global average of negative 4.5 per cent. It is the first time in three decades that Taiwan has achieved a growth rate greater than China’s.
The statistic shows the annual growth rate of the real gross domestic product (GDP) in Taiwan from 2010 to 2020 with forecasts until 2022. GDP refers to the total market value of all goods and services that are produced within a country per year. It is an important indicator of the economic strength of a country. In 2020, the annual growth rate of the GDP in Taiwan amounted to approximately 3.12 percent. Despite the global coronavirus pandemic, Taiwan was able to maintain high economic growth due to successful measures against the spread of the virus. For comparison, the GDP growth rate of China reached about 2.3 percent in 2020.
Since Taiwan is the largest chip producer in the world, the US does not want Taiwan to unify with China. Moreover, Taiwan is a big buyer of US weapons.

More the older and younger Taiwanese remember how the CCP invaded their peoples after CCP ruling the China from 1949 till now, even the old and younger Chinese also knew that the CCP how to force and control them, but they can't fight with Tank and bullets.
Now Taiwan is a freedom country, nobody like to turn back as communist's policy, unless the people who can have benefits from CCP.

i feel chance and more humane approach is peaceful reunification like what happened between East and West Germany..We need to note that there was a pro China party in Taiwan...but it got deciminated....and the country now is almost completely under the influence of a democracy oriented party.. Reasons are simple - what is happening in HK and Xinjiang scared the shit out of the Taiwanese..Another point: if the people of Taiwan actually want to unite with PRC, you know it, the US or any other power will not be able to stop it....By the way do you know why most people in China do not have a brother/sister or uncle/aunty...?..Count our blessings

Taiwan is part of China, this is the undeniable history fact. Taiwan need to talk to China on the future of China-Taiwan relationship and not be misled by US to declared independent in the hope that US will come to the aid of Taiwan if China used force to unify Taiwan.

The Portuguese named it Formosa - The strong one. They had a fort there. It was also occupied by Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) a Ming Dynasty loyalist after the Manchu overthrow. Unfortunately the new generation feels nothing for China - just like the vast majority of Chinese Malaysians who consider they belong here. China is only a land of opportunity for the business-minded.

I do consider Taiwan to be part of China and that there should be reunification one day. [If the island wasn't part of the mainland how could Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek occupy it so easily and then called the island (together with China) as the Republic of China?] However politicians will always take advantage for themselves. How many realise that CKS refused reparations from Japan for the 10 years of invasion and war? In politics, whether autocratic or a democratic, individual and party loyalties can be ill-defined and open to corruption. There is no such thing as a single-minded purpose in nation building. This is Taiwan's main problem.

If say Taiwan is part of China...I think more suitable to say China is part of Taiwan before CCP ruling the mainland, don't forget that China never ruling in Taiwan even 1 day and didn't have any contract between gov Republic Of China and People Republic Of China. If China claim Taiwan is part of China then China should act in 72 years ago. Some time what the real history also will mislead. Remember that, When CCP ruling is not change gov, is change the rule and become a new country, don't let they use back the SAME name 'CHINA' misleading.
