Dr M: Khazanah lost sight of its original purpose

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional was created to support Bumiputera equity in Malaysia but has diverged from this objective, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Responding to a question on his earlier reported remarks about Khazanah, the prime minister said the fund was expressly set up to prop up the value of shares allocated to the community and prevent these from being sold off to other groups.
“But now, it seems that Khazanah is buying up all shares, whether meant for the Bumiputera or not,” he said during a press conference after a Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting.
“So maybe they should go back to their original purpose.”

Bumiputra agenda spearheaded by Yayasan Bumiputra, PNB, Pernas, MARA, Tabung Haji, LTAT but not Khazanah.
At the very beginning, Khazanah recruited a lot of talents from Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley. I am not so sure now. Just like MaGIC original workhorses already replaced within 2 years.
Setting up a new business venture is hard.
To destroy established system is kacang putih........
