THE BIGGEST LOSERS IN PH'S GAME OF THRONES ARE DAP AND AMANAH

savemalaysia
Publish date: Mon, 24 Feb 2020, 12:39 AM

The PH Presidential Council concluded it's meeting yesterday. We know what the press conference announced. Tun said he will only handover after APEC and Anwar said he will wait. Anwar's supporters will claim victory, claim Anwar is the bigger man. The same goes to the Bersatu faction. GRANTED.

But what many didn't know is what transpired in the meeting. And the unnamed biggest losers are actually DAP and Amanah.

Anwar had the numbers. In fact Anwar had 15 out of the 25 members within the PH Presidential Council since months ago. Anwar had the entire bloc from DAP (6 leaders namely LKS, LGE, Tan Kok Wai, Kula, Anthony and Gobind), the entire bloc from Amanah (5 leaders namely Mat Sabu, Salahuddin Ayub, Khalid Samad, Hatta Ramli and Husam) and half of PKR (3 leaders namely Wan Azizah, Saifuddin Nasution and Xavier).

Tun had only 10 out of 25, namely the entire bloc from Bersatu (Muhyiddin, Mukhriz, Marzuki, Rina and Saddiq) and half of PKR (Azmin, Zuraida, Tian and Saifuddin Abdullah).

In the last Presidential Council meeting following the Tanjung Piai defeat, Anwar tried to push for a date together with namely Khalid Samad and Husam Musa. Anwar assumed the defeat was to his advantage, but the issue was put to a halt after LGE and Mat Sabu, both as heads of DAP and Amanah decided not to pursue the matter. They wanted to avoid risking their Cabinet working relationship with Tun.

This time round, LGE and Mat Sabu weighed in. Finally after so many months, LGE as head of DAP and Mat Sabu as head of Amanah said, "Tun, let's fix a date". It's all out, they thought.

Of course, Bersatu objected. They threatened to pull out because they know they can form a new government with UMNO and Pas. Their path was already cemented. So GRANTED. This is a fact that we should stop wasting time discussing.

Mat Sabu even said, "it is OK since Amanah have been used to being the Opposition". That was the extent of how much DAP and Amanah went "all-in” for Anwar.

But...... rather than pursuing the said date after DAP and Amanah “all-in”, Anwar said, "Tun, we leave it to your leadership. If you decide it is after APEC, so be it".

Wait, what? After telling Bloomberg it is May 2020, after his goons like William Leong and Otai Reformasi went around the country announcing May 2020, after DAP and Amanah decided to 'all-in”, suddenly Anwar said after APEC 2020?

Of course LGE and Mat Sabu were shell shocked and left to look like fools. Like a game of poker, they thought it is now or never and decided to “all-in” assuming Anwar would spearhead the charge. But, Anwar backtracked and left DAP and Amanah to clash with Tun. So the u-turn was made.

So what's left of DAP and Amanah? In doing Anwar’s bidding, LGE and Mat Sabu risked their working relationship with Tun within the Cabinet. But they did so nevertheless, in hopes of helping a friend called Anwar.

If Anwar spearheaded the charge with DAP and Amanah’s support and won the clash, then it is worth the bid.

But that was not the case. Anwar did not clash with Tun. He baited DAP and Amanah to clash with Tun, and DAP and Amanah foolishly took the bait.

Now DAP and Amanah look like foolish running dogs. They have been played out by Anwar, and they are neither on Tun's good books. They lost their political chips within the PH Presidential Council and their heads in the Cabinet are now on a guillotine at the mercy of Tun.

So this is the question now: Why did Anwar play out DAP and Amanah and hung them to dry? Or was this a case of DAP and Amanah not being wise enough to stay out of Anwar and Tun’s game of thrones?

i suspect UMNO will outmaneuvered Bersatu if they chose to. Is very simple, once PH is broken, Bersatu will be on its own.
Now if with the new coalition, UMNO pull out ,what is going to happen to Bersatu, sure crumbled. If I'm UMNO, I will support first, once new govt form, I'll pull out and call for GE. GE , BN will be the biggest winner. Why want to share with Bersatu when can take all.

there will be no elections..for now

2020-02-24 10:26

Bottomline is I don't see this new coalition stable and BN has much more to gain from a GE.

2020-02-24 10:27

yes qqq3333, there won't be, but Bersatu will be at the mercy of UMNO and BN. If UMNO say no more support, it will crumbled.

A small party like Bersatu will be death soon. Whatever direction they choose will also died. The old man still think he is untouchable.

Will there be a election , is up to UMNO to decide. I dare say madey trapped himself

2020-02-24 10:28

the diff is this, if Bersatu is with PH, those in PH dare not called for GE because it will not be in their favour, BUT if is with the new coalition, UMNO will gain massively if there is a GE. that is the big diff.

PH collapses without the support of Bersatu and a faction of PKR.

If TDM can form a new coalition, he will remain as PM.

If TDM cannot form a new coalition, or if the parliament is dissolved for whatever the reason, will TDM be willing to fight another election campaign, given his age and what will be the driving motivation for doing so?

If he is willing to fight another election, what does he hope to achieve, above what he has already achieved to date? Will he be able to form a stronger government on a firmer support base and soon relinquish it to a younger able new PM?

Whether TDM remains as PM of PH or a new coalition or PM of a newly reelected government, his best chance to leave a wonderful legacy (almost a fantastic one) is shattered with the political manouevres yesterday. He will leave a legacy, but it would not be the truly fantastic one that the world will remember him by.

Politics is intriguing: neither permanent enemies nor permanent friends.
