KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed his gratitude to Langkawi voters who cast their ballot papers for him in the 15th general election.

The two-time prime minister lost his bid for re-election in Langkawi in the Nov 19 polls, getting only 4,566 votes and losing his deposit.

He said the 4,566 voters should not lose hope for backing him on his anti-corruption platform.

"I am honoured by your spirit, bravery and rejection of corruption shown by voting for me under the Pejuang-Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) banner. 

"I would like to thank all of you once again for voting for me. Please believe that our small number does not mean that our struggle is over," Dr Mahathir said in a statement.

He hoped voters who backed GTA were not saddened by the election outcome and would continue to fight for the principles the coalition stood for.
