KUALA LUMPUR:The Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (Delima) is more comprehensive than 1BestariNet, says Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.

"When I joined the Education Ministry last December I used Delima to see how this platform works," he told the Dewan Rakyat during the oral question and answer session on Wednesday (March 27).

"What I saw was that the platform developed by the ministry in-house is complete with the necessary information and is successful compared to another project which is the 1BestariNet which began in 2011."

"When Covid-19 hit our country and the movement control order (MCO) affected our education system, the 1BestariNet was not helpful," he added.

He said only 42% students were using the Delima platform as of last year, adding that the ministry had been encouraging students to use the platform for reference and learning.

However, he said about 90% of teachers had been using the platform.

He was responding to a supplementary question by Dr.Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi (PN-Kuala Kedah) on whether the ministry had studied the efficacy of the platform.

Wong said Delima was a free platform that contained several services, applications and content which would be updated according to the latest technology developments.

"The education resources in Delima feature several interactive and fun education materials that could expand the students' opportunities to learn and increase their motivation, performance and potential to develop their talent," he said.

Throughout 2023, there were 2.1 million students who were active users of Delima.

Delima was launched in 2020.

The 1BestariNet project was often criticised for being a white elephant project.

The mega project which reportedly costs billions and ran over several phases since it was initiated in 2011.
