Stock pick challenge based on the discussion @ http://klse.i3investor.com/blogs/kianweiaritcles/33790.jsp

Based on the discussion on OTB stock pick challenge thread - http://klse.i3investor.com/servlets/forum/1100019385.jsp, I would suggest we setup belows rules.

let's assume you will have 100k cash on your hand and you can freely to buy\sell any counter on KLSE with following conditions:-
 - Period 30-Aug-2013 - 31-Dec-2013
 - Buy \ Sell transaction based on the close price
 - For every participant, I will setup your transaction portfolio and share it out (e.g. Stock Pick and Trading Challenge 2013 2H - TKW) and every members in i3 will judge the performance.
 - You can leave comments on your own transaction anytime, and I will execute the buy\sell transaction as per your comment based on latest trading day stock close price
 - For each transaction, we shall apply 0.1% brokerage fee (min RM8) + other misc fee as per i3investor portfolio tools standard
 - no margin, or borrowing... you available cash is your trading limit
-  dividend, stock split, bonus issue, etc.... will be recorded and it will be part of your profit, please leave the comments there if i overlook on this, we shall record it after the ex-date to reflect the portfolio performance.

I am performing some modification on the rules by adding in some trading mechanism instead of just a pure stock pick as I believe some member would like to perform trading instead of just buy and hold...

whoever interest to participate, please leave your stock pick on this thread and I will compile and release your portfolio on monday (2-Sep-2013). I hope that more people can join this new stock pick challenge and we can learn from each others...

Happy Investing...

And this is a sample portfolio that created by me - Stock Pick Challenge Portfolio - TKW

Please let your name and mentioned your stock selection by 1-Sep-2013 and we shall close the participation after 1-Sep-2013 and let's the game start.

How to determine the Winner?
 - all stock in the holding (if any) will be sold based on the last  day - 31-Dec-2013 close price
 - the portfolio with the most Total Value will be the winner

I do notice those bottom 5 participants have very weak knowledge in stock selections! They should not invest at all until they have sufficient knowledge in stock selections and proper timing! Stock market is not for those who don't know much or else loss a lot of money!

2013-10-27 00:59

Top 5 have excellent trading knowledge! The other 5 have good stock selections! The rest may need to polish on their timings!

Yes, I agree Mr Tan. I think 3-5 years will tell us who is the true investor since company need time to grow and eventually bear fruits.

Tan KW @wajatimur_28 i am thinking to have one more on next year Jan...

not sure who is interest...

but i think we should have longer time span..... say 3yr - 5yr

else it is really hard to exclude out the luck element...

I totally agree for another competition starting from next year and lets put 3 years duration will be fair to both investor and trader. Elements of luck can be ruled out if it is held in 3 years period.

hafiz, gooo and thundercat would like to tell us, picked the right shares will give you piece of mind. no need to monitor everyday and they will generate the multi fold return vs fd....

U got the point there. But you wont know you're right until you hit the return you want. When you dont hit the return you want, then you pick the wrong one. At the point of picking you wont know if it is right or wrong.

Rich's performance is indeed a model of consistency having occupied the top spot (except for once) since the contest started.

# The updated status as at the close of trading today (my apologies if there are any errors). With just 6 more trading days to go, barring any unforeseen circumstances Rich will likely consolidate his top position. However there should be a tussle for the 2nd and 3rd spots for those currently occupying 2nd to 6th placing (all with profit of more than 20K)

To all contestants, all the best in the final lap.

# Special Update - Expect an exciting finish.

With two more trading days to the end of the challenge competition, Ooi Teik Bee has propelled himself (with a strategic purchase in Hap Sen warrants) to the 2nd spot and closed the gap to less than RM 3,000, with every chance of snatching the title from Rich who has been leading (except on one instance) since the contest started.

Look forward to an exciting finishing in the final lap.

# The Final Stretch

With just one more trading day to go, OoiTB has further narrowed the gap and is now just RM2,000 behind Rich. So it all depends on the final day tomorrow. The race can't be more exciting - expect a neck to neck finish.

Gains at the close of today's trading.

Rcih - 49,896
OoiTB - 47,889

KW Tan - I may not have the time to compute the results tomorrow. Please do it if you do not see my posting by 8 pm. Thank you. Good effort to organise the challenge.

Congrats to rIch for topping the list. Thanks to invest88 and Tan KW for their efforts.

My style is more investor than trader, as I only picked one trade in Oct and keep it till today. In real life, I do have this pick in my portfolio, among others, but this pick has proven to be the biggest winner.

In comparison, KLSE rose about 100 points (~6%) in the past 3 months.

As a lesson learn (for myself at least) to take away from this contest, perhaps it is a good strategy to focus on few good stocks in a kind market condition, instead of switching in and out of many stocks. I resisted temptations to switch to other "hot" stocks such as Instaco and LBS warrant, and I believe that has proven to be the right step.

Of course, some may disagree with it, your opinions and thoughts please..
