They were ignorant of the fact that the former DO contribute monthly, except that it is not deducted from their salaries. Nothing more. I have no intention of being dragged into discussion on the government's ability to pay future retirement benefits because it is a worldwide problem facing both sectors. It is too gloomy a subject and inevitably, as popularly expressed, `the shit will hit the fans' in the distant future. The situation will not improve as long as central banks continue with their insane zero interest rate regime.

If I'm not mistaken, civil servants DO contribute towards their pension on retirement. Except the payment doesn't come from their salaries but from the Government towards their pension fund. The Government contributes 17% of their basis salary towards this fund. The actual salary of civil servants: basic + 17% of basic.

If there is a migration (currently happening) to USD stocks/cash, our own currency may be in jeopardy with the outflow. Investment/speculation in shares still holds the highest attraction because of its volatility - it can make you rich or poor in an instant. In the local context, it will be a dream situation for cash rich companies like ICap.
