@probability, is ok, up to yr willing, even u don do it, is ok ...... we do not really know how HY/Petron do their hedging, they never revealed their derivatives, but only the result.
My observation is, HY/Petron financial result go quite in parallel, basically both favor to high oil price but HY is more extreme (in profit or lost). Is more meaningful if you put in effort to study the average oil price during the reported quarter vs their quarterly P/L ...... ;-)

@firehawk, when you hedge its about protecting yourself from future transaction that will take place, not what had already happened (like the inventory you already purchase).

for crude (raw mat) inventory , its buying in futures
for refined oil (products) inventory, it selling in futures

thanks! if we want to hedge crude, let's say we have the inventory 6m at buying price 100 /brl, and we hedge it by buying equivalent contract @100/brl (just assume a neutral price, doesn;t matter higher or lower, bcos future go in tandem with physical commodity) ....... so if the price go down to, let say 87, what happen to this hedging strategy?

For layman, one can view that HY has an inventory (crude) of 6 million barrels where they hedged at say 125 USD/brl by end if Q4 21.

If by end of Q1 22, the market inventory value is at 120 USD/brl.
They will report this as hedging loss of :

(125 - 120) x 6 million barrels
= 132 million MYR loss

If by end of Q2 22', the market inventory value is at 100 USD/brl
They will report this as hedging loss of :
(125 - 100) x 6 million barrels
= 660 million MYR loss

From the above info. regarding to the revenue, the actual electricity sold was only from 11.84b to 12.57b, the reported 53.8% increased was mainly due to ICPT, a gov subsidy scheme which involves different pricing for resident and industrial /commercial usage.

16) REVIEW OF PERFORMANCE
Revenue for the quarter was up by 53.8% or RM6,699.3 million quarter on quarter, mainly due to the higher under-recovery position of ICPT of RM6,302.6 million as compared to the last corresponding period which was at RM314.6 million.

For the period ended 30 June 2022, the Group recorded a revenue of RM842.8 million, an increase of 13% as compared to RM743.0 million reported in the corresponding period last year. The RM99.8 million increase was generally contributed by higher gross premiums/contributions of RM100.9 million or 14% generated by the reinsurance and takaful subsidiaries.
However, the Group recorded a loss after tax of RM13.3 million in the financial period ended 30 June 2022 as compared to RM46.5 million profit after tax reported in the same period last year. The significant decrease in the profit after tax by RM59.8 million despite the increase in the revenue was mainly contributed by the unfavourable fair value movement of the investments as well as increase in the
net claims incurred and the unfavorable result of the associate.

No wonder market price keep on sliding ..... bcos earning also sliding ......

For the second quarter ended 30 June 2022 (“2Q2022”), Bank Islam Group achieved a profit before zakat and tax (“PBZT”) of RM181.2 million, a decrease of RM79.3 million or 30.4% over the PBZT of the
corresponding quarter last year (“2Q2021”) of RM260.5 million. The decrease in PBZT was mainly due to lower net income and higher total overheads.

Mahathir fired Apandi for closing the 1MDB case .... when the PH gov toppled, Apandi sued the gov for wrongly terminated him from AG post, the current gov settled the case outside the court by paying Apandi 2m+ (can't remember the exact number) .....

is not sure whether Mahathir was wrongly fired him or as Mahathir said gov has the right to terminate wrong doing gov servant ...... whatever, Apandi gets 2m+ without going through court hearing procedure ......

p/s, don't believe too much on indicator /signal .... not always work ......

Not long ago, 2020 March, it was a crash happened, wasn't it? I think many learned from the experience 2 years ago.

My lesson learned was, when come to crash, people just threw at any price, that you don't believe (may be caused by margin-call) ...... by then, my largest holding was BIMB-WA, it was a corporate exercise to buy back @0.25sen, but the corporate exercise needed BNM approval, due to covid and reduced work force, BNM kept on delay ...... the price dropped to 12.5sen, it was 100% gain for a almost sure bet (just waiting for approval needed, unless it was not approved). Finally, BIMB paid 38sen for each of the BIMB-WA, to compensate the delay, those but at low price enjoyed >100%, even 200% gain ........

A true experience not long ago, what impressed me was not the high return, but how people just threw their holding at whatever price ..... now, US enter to the unprecedented era, which is the consequences of their over done quantitative easing for years, now they need to rise the interest rate and tighten the liquidity, how severe the crash will be? would it be more serious than 2020 March? who can give a suggestion?

FFavco declares lucrative dividends, one after another, bcos most off the money goes to their pockets (besides Muhhibah) ..... Muhhibah SH don't get any (bcos more retailers in this ctr), in contrast, asked money from SH through RI (while not compelling for cash), share price dipped to breach RI price, this would even hurt those subscribed for RI ......

not only manipulate market price but enhance with company events .... price will only goes up when retailers give up ......

The remaining RM0.11 per SYF Share on an entitlement date to be determined and announced at a later date after the completion of the Proposed Disposal of Freehold Land.
