I have enough high beta to deliver good performance in a hot market, so I am now looking into Low profile stocks that can’t hurt much in the event that market turns sour

More of “think of safety first, only then return” kind of stocks

Oh no offence taken

These few stocks are indeed quite dinosaur

I pick them because I have already got adequate high potential high beta stocks

recent lousy performance and CPO down cycle provides opportunities to accumulate on the cheap

one day, CPO price will recover

so will profitability

that is why it is a contrarian move

September 2018 quarter lousy result also due to forex loss RM10 mil, land donation RM9 mil

those are not recurrent

In September 2018 quarter, CPO price achieved RM1,872 per MT

Now is RM2,223 per MT

Despite the increase in revenue for the current quarter of RM333.5 million as compared to the preceding quarter of RM228.4 million, the group recorded lower profit before tax of RM26.1 million as compared to the preceding quarter of RM31.2 million mainly due to lower CPO sales volume of 26,500 MT and lower average selling price of RM1,872 per MT in the current quarter as compared to 33,000 MT and RM2,173 per MT respectively in the preceding quarter.

(2) Malaysia tariff for power concession actually is two tier structure.

Tier one is usually very high. Because the generating companies (gencos) need to service the debts they raised to fund the construction of the plants. Those debts will typically mature by lets' say 10 years. Once they mature, Tier Two will kick in. Tier Two is usually lower because now the gencos only need to serve the interest of equity holders.

Against this backdrop, a logical thing for MMC to do is to list Malakoff shortly before Tier One expires and Tier Two kicks in, which was exactly what they did in 2014. That is why you see Malakoff earnings dropped from RM500 mil in 2014 to RM300 now in 2018.

That is the reason why Malakoff 's earning now is so weak compared to fresh genco like Jaks' Vietnam IPP.

(1) in 2007 (you were probably sitting for SRP) , MMC took Malakoff private through a Leveraged Buyout (LBO).

Basically MMC made use of Malakoff power subsidiaries' free cash flow to raise a bond that raise cash to be distributed to Malakoff minority shareholders as consideration. Those bonds will never really expire. When closed to maturity, they will be refinanced, and the cash raised will be distributed to MMC (everybody loves cash). And then those bonds will be serviced again by malakoff power subsidiaries future Free cash flow.

This is the standard practice. That is why the bulk of Malakoff's profit goes now to service interest payment. In other words, Malakoff's' low profitability is not because the power subsidiaries are not generating high return, as you incorrectly assumed. It is because there are two layers of debts there sucking out most of the profit. One level at gencos (generating companies) and one level at corporate

Malakoff currently earns net profit around RM230mil in last 4 quarters.

How J@K$ can earn that much since it has only 1 power plant(1,200MW) as compared to Malakoff's 10 power plant(Total=7000MW) & 5 water desalination plant????

it will happen before you know it

all it takes is for equity market to remain ok, then come end February BIMB announced good result, the stock will climb to lets say 4.20

what price will BIMB-WA be ? 30 sen ? 35 sen ? 40 sen ?

Rapid KL management is mostly changed entirely after the GE14, all projects talks from Rapid KL are halted, according to my source closed to RapidKL.

Just apply the same concept to all other Government Departments/Agencies/Companies. Can AWC continue to get government projects based on open tender basis? You guess it.

Unless AWC can speed up/grow its other divisions to off set the future falling of its government projects, or else, its revenue & profits will be at its best as what it was for past 2 years.

It means, future potential = doubt.

That's my 2 cent opinion, and I stay away from all government-related business companies, not worth to argue & won't reply.
