Investor would not give inari and insas same PE. Businesss model isn’t the same. What I don’t like about Insas is their business model to buy and hold market fund assets. Is it creating value periodically by investing stock market? Are they making more right decision other than inari? Do they have More than enough funds to acquire more investment if they given dividends? Can they create value organically?
Even investments insas is holding is worth more... there’s no cash flow created.... unless management is very good in Investing, then it might be a mini Berkshire... me myself is not convincing...

Margin of safety based on Intrinsic value is theoretically true but this intrinsic value should not based on merely net tangible assets value. It should based on the value that can create in future... earnings....

good inputs, Grahamnewman. That's a very fair judgement at least for me.

However i am not so convince with the moat you were referring with Gkent construction. I am not representing government but i believe government change PDP to turnkey, reducing the size and give back LRT 3 project to GKent because its the best they can do. They would definitely take back Gkent the award if there's no compensation required. Their previous track record of their rail projects (not so nice because with demerit on ampang line- quoted from our current government as opposition previously) But i am not saying they are really incompetence, after all you can hire a good team of engineers with money. But that doesn't make you have the moat over peers, you just can't say you have the moat because you won the tender.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Furthermore, if it was really their incompetence, why would they get LRT 3 again even after a change of government? And now as the project being a turnkey project, GKENT have more leeway in terms of managing cost to achieve more profits.

Dear philip, Gkent might have the little moat on water meter but its relatively small. On the rail system that was revised, my understanding of Gkent had not proven any competitive advantages other than contract was already awarded to Gkent. The project was not re-tender, if Gkent won the award by another round of open tender then it might prove something else. And its not yet proven Gkent has the ability to able to finished these projects on hand with better margin than peers in term of efficiency or whatsoever. But i do agree with on hand order book of 5billion, valuation seems do look attractive. Also, I disagreed with your harsh comments on myeg had lost its moat. What we have seen with recent quarters, myeg had not yet seen any dwindling of margin. It is also replicating its business and system in philipines, indonesia and blangadesh. Indonesia government have allowed them with JV for the country GST implementing system, i do not know whether there is any direct political line involved but if there's no moat at all how they managed to get those contracts? To be honest, i have not seen a company doing this well with good margins and efficient among companies that serve government system and e services. Or what you are saying is these companies were all cronies previously with lousy management? I am very curious with your understanding on moat please enlighten me sifu philip.

i would say armada main concern are still their borrowings, especially short term debts. Of coz these debts might have some ways to refinance but these are all assumptions yet. I don't think making assumption on behalf management/owner make disgrace to investment decision. at least it increased probability to some extent...

Stockraider I am not saying using cigarbutt investing doesn’t work. I am just referring that buying quality and better moat company give you far superior results in longer term. You are right Warren Buffett’s heinz fail him but overall he’s still making less mistakes than what the correct deals. His philosophy is to figure out how to do less dumb things, and he will be ok. I suppose his track records have proven it.

There are really too many problems that are not solve yet, which justify risks are still there. But can’t deny opportunities are really really huge if these are solved... especially pricing now already factor in most if not all of the negative risks...

i found an interesting quote about graham. in fact i found many interesting references that show graham would buy lousy stock waiting for turnaround. Thats why warren called graham way cigarbutt investing. But clearly, warren buffett move on from cigarbutt investing and the differences make him far superior than his mentor graham.

from what i had observed, philip have his method worked very well because he is only picking the best quality out of so many counters. He is looking at moat, consistent match of his expectation from the management. That makes a big differences from sslee whom if i am not mistaken picked INSAS for etc. There are many ways to make money in the market but you can't apply every method together. some business have the right business, right timing and the right people, it makes them even without dividend you could still know its very attractive business to invest in. But to find out whether which company fits, it bring another topic then.

i say as either way is not wrong as long as they create value within. but most business out there are mediocre business with not that capable management, still it doesn't mean you don't look at them at all. it depends.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia said on Friday it will revive a multi-billion dollar property project to be built by a China-linked venture, nearly two years after it was canceled.

The Bandar Malaysia project will resume with the original contractors - a joint-venture between Malaysian firm Iskandar Waterfront Holdings and China Railway Engieering Corp (CREC) - but under a new development plan, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said.

i would totally agreed that JAKS is definitely not a great company, but it doesn't make JAKS a mediocre company to be an very bad investment. After eliminate so many risks, there are still some opportunities that it could be a turnover company, especially from its vietnam power plant. Of coz, i am not going to elaborate those analysis as there are already so many on the forum itself. Also, i would agreed with you that those analysis and figures are not proven but its definitely not pluck from the air. Frankly from those speculated analysis, just take a pinch of salt and decide from its risk and rewards i believe it is already sufficient enough. Not necessary a great investment, but you are still betting against odds not gambling. I would agree that howard marks and john neff investment philosophy are good and proven very successful too. For warren buffett, he's the greatest for reason and philip have the same concept when it comes to picking companies to invest in. I don't criticise and condemning both different philosophy as i benefited from both.
