Nurul Izzah Sues EC Over Electoral Roll


PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has filed a suit against the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Registration Department (NRD) for not effectively cleaning up the electoral roll.

The Lembah Pantai MP alleged that there were numerous voter discrepancies in her area, including over 4,500 voters with incomplete or unknown addresses and three voters who were already dead.

There were also 133 people who are not residents of the area listed as voters, she said, adding that the suit was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday.

"We sent a letter to the EC but they have not dealt with the situation, and say they are still looking into it," she said at a press conference at the PKR HQ here Wednesday.

Also filing the suit was Kadir Sultan Abd Majid, a voter in the Lembah Pantai constituency who said he just wanted "clean and fair elections".

Respondents are the EC, its chief registrar, the NRD, and the Government.
