KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin must not be too hasty in claiming that investigations over allegations that he was involved in the awarding of the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) contract to a company linked to his son-in-law while he was prime minister were malicious, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

The prime minister said Muhyiddin should not be overplaying the matter if the claims were untrue, and instead wait for the report from the authorities.

Anwar, however, said serious matters such as this should serve as a reminder to any minister not to use their positions for personal interests.

“The reasons (for the investigations) is to stop anyone, from now on, whether the prime minister, the finance minister or ministers, [from assuming] that it is the place to enrich family members.

“Malicious or not, wait for the report… as to how far he is involved, I do not know but investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Anwar was met by reporters after launching the Housewives Social Security Scheme and MyFutureJobs Carnival 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Saturday (Feb 11).

The prime minister was responding to Muhyiddin’s statement two days ago, denying that he was involved in the awarding of the NIISe contract to Iris Corp Bhd linked to his son-in-law.

In the statement, Muhyiddin, who was referring to the allegations published by a news portal on Feb 8, described them as malicious and slanderous deliberately designed to tarnish his and his family’s dignity.

Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, went on to say that none of his family members has a stake in Iris Corp Bhd, either as company directors or shareholders.

Separately, on claims that the acquisition of the Covid-19 vaccine during the PN administration was done without the agreement of the Attorney General, Anwar said this was based on information he received from the Health Ministry (MOH).

He said the details were then presented to the Cabinet before being passed on to investigating authorities, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“It is now up to the investigating bodies, MACC and the others, no more my business. What I mentioned before was a statement prepared by the MOH and the Cabinet has taken note of it. The investigating bodies will then have to probe and verify the claims,” he said.

He was responding to a statement by former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who said the vaccine procurement had been presented to the Cabinet.

On criticism towards the appointment of Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz as Malaysian Ambassador to the US, Anwar said this was not appropriate as the appointment was decided a year ago by the previous government.

He said the appointment took six months as the US had to endorse it, and the current administration had to go ahead with it to prevent problems should that decision be overturned.

“So, there is no problem with criticism. But it would be good to take note of things. Ask and clarify first, and don’t just assume and criticise, but now people are upset as though we are responsible (for the appointment),” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): Bursa Malaysia is likely to trend sideways with slightly positive bias within the 1,470-1,490 range next week after a strong set of 2022 gross domestic product (GDP) data was released on Friday (Feb 10), a dealer said.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said the positive GDP results would boost investor confidence and drive up stock prices as they could lead to stronger corporate earnings and consumer spending.

"On the other hand, investors should stay cautious on external factors such as high inflation in the western bloc and increasing volatility of global equities," he told Bernama.

Technically, Thong said immediate support is located at 1,460 while resistance is at 1,500.

Echoing Thong, Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd senior analyst Kenneth Leong said the key focus would be towards the upcoming batch of corporate earnings releases starting from next week till the end of the month.

Globally, investors are also monitoring several US key economic data such as the inflation rate on Feb 14 as well as both retail sales and industrial production on Feb 15.

"Technically, we continue to see 1,500 as the key resistance on the FBM KLCI, while the support is envisaged at 1,460," he said.

Meanwhile, SPI Asset Management managing director Stephen Innes said there is an element of the risk-off permeating the global market due to a more hawkish Federal Reserve outlook.

"Regardless of next week's US consumer price index print, unless it drops significantly below expectations, global markets will continue to price in recession risk, so external factors look unfavourable.

"Many local traders think this year's China household consumption recovery could be slower than expected, given the scarring effects of property deleveraging and the legacy of three years of Covid-19 controls. Hence, I look for Bursa Malaysia to trade very defensively next week amid more possible ringgit weakness and growing US recession concerns," he said.

On a week-to-week basis, the key index eased 15.88 points to 1,474.59 on Friday against 1,490.47 a week earlier.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index dropped 146.31 points to 10,740.04, the FBMT 100 Index fell 142.16 points to 10,405.73, the FBM Emas Shariah Index went down 165.86 points to 11,046.41, the FBM 70 Index dipped 315.01 points to 13,569.98, and the FBM ACE Index was 99.23 points lower at 5,744.

Sector-wise, the Plantation Index edged down 40.59 points to 6,886.65, the Energy Index eased 9.74 points to 896.37, the Financial Services Index was down by 201.45 points to 16,113.37, and the Industrial Products and Services Index slid 1.6 points to 190.15.

Weekly turnover slipped to 16.84 billion units worth RM10.22 billion against 18.10 billion units worth RM10.57 billion last week.

The Main Market volume narrowed to 11.26 billion shares valued at RM8.53 billion from 12.44 billion shares valued at RM8.78 billion a week ago.

Warrants volume rose to 1.40 billion units worth RM183.89 million from 1.26 billion units worth RM217.46 million previously.

The ACE Market volume declined to 4.17 billion shares worth RM1.52 billion from 4.39 billion shares worth RM1.57 billion last week.

Does it even make sense for JPJ, or individual Department/Ministry to have a Big computer/IT team to handle their platform?? Can't hire a few ppl and expect the platform to work well. Need a team of ppl with various expertise. Think it makes more sense to out-source such projects to specialized companies such as Myeg!!

obviously this mr minister jsut wanna show he ada buat kerja. this digitalisation was oredi in a study phase during wee ka sion . he didnt dare to implement because obviously they know they unable to handle such big influx of users. and after many ppl complain sekarang cakap pulak no mandatory and police have a device to check then buat apa we download the app . if they enforcers can check based on our car plate number but if the car has a fake care plate number macam mana kalau accident time ? how to trace the offenders kalau lari away with fake car plate num?

Most ppl panic sell bcoz of poor or no self research. MyJPJ app is only to DISPLAY the road tax & license, not to BUY. To buy or renew the road tax & license requires connection to a payment gateway. Which is what MYEG has. So you still need MYEG to renew your road tax & license, & the MyJPJ app to show it to the police.

Conclusion: MYEG is not going anywhere. Shortseller sharks just took advantage of ppl's panic to buy shares at low prices. Hold on to your shares, & the shortsellers will not have shares to buy, then see what happens.

very wrong lor, did you try the MyJPJ? i just renew my license via MyJPJ and it has option to collect the physical license from the nearest JPJ branch. And it can allow you to renew your roadtax too if your roadtax will be expired within 3 months and there is already an insurance bought on the car.

don't just make assumptions, go install MyJPJ and test it out

yalor, same story like the gloves last time people also stubborn and over confident gloves are highly undervalued and one day the short sellers will force to buy back. but see what is happening now, all glove stocks burned > 90% and now there is still no sign of coming back.

so now you wanna repeat the same mistake for myeg and over confident all these are the plots by short sellers to collect cheap. better think twice and learn from the mistakes in gloves, if the fundamental is truly broken the sharks are just happy to dump all the shares to you while the price is still high and it will just go lower & lower only.

Said easier than done. It’s just not abt coding , there are many other aspects such as management and marketing etc..why not Indian it expert rewrite software to replace msoffice? There are closed to 1000 myeg kiosks in Malaysia, they have been in operations for many years. U think user will switch from existing one to new service provider?

Dear YB Anthony Loke, as a minister, you are part of unity government team to be responsible for public investors' interest. Do you agree that your department or JPJ should have the curtesy to invite talk or discussion with MYEG management (who serviced malaysian government for the past 12 years)!!! This sudden flux of info completely kept MYEG in the dark, worse still, it caused MYEG share price a heavy wipe out of Rm23B in value! Is it the consequencest an investor should suffer by owning shares of a company who served the countryman well all these years? why gave shorters such big chance to short sell MYEG shares???? Is this how public investors' interest are protected in Malaysia??
