@TORTOISE ,yeah you are right.Seemed like consolidation is over as shown by the various Technical Chart Indicators today.
2. The MACD line(12,26,9) has just crossed the Signal Line(red colour) today and that is good.Portend strong momentum support for the price to move higher.
3.On the RSI stochastic chart(14,14,3,3) the %K has also crossed the Signal Line (%D).
4.That together can confirm the price consolidation is over.Time period for AMMB to move higher. No reason to stay put.

Outcome: Hopefully, can see green shoots from the counter.Smile:-)))

International Financial Financing Reporting Standard 9 (or IFRS9 in brevity) or MFRS9 ((The Malaysia equivalent) will come into force at the beginning of 2018.With this new and drastic change in methodology banks will be required to switch to an expected loss model,as opposed to the incurred loss model they now used under MFRS 139.
2.Thus given such change banks will see a jump in provisions, which would hurt earnings and weigh on their capital ratios and potentially affect dividend payout.
3.But on the other hand,Malaysian major six banks including AMMB are quite well capitalised,so it is not going to be an immediate concern. The only thing here is the impact on profitability subsequently. That's the main concern.
4.AMMB which has a March 31 financial year end, will transition to MFRS9 only on April next year.According to CEO Sulaiman the impact on its CET-1 is expected to be neutral. Also he commented that it is too early to predict reliably on the impairment upon IFRS9 adoption. He further added that its bank capitalisation is more than adequate and AMMB would strive to maintain a consistent dividend annual payout.

No favourable catalyst in the short-term ahead, current conditions prevailing…maintain NEUTRAL. We reiterate our NEUTRAL call as we see no change in the prevailing conditions ahead. There is no concrete catalyst and game changer on the horizon and structural and cyclical headwinds are still prevailing such as; (i) moderating economy, (ii) subdued loans growth, and (iii) downward pressure on NIM. We maintain our MARKET PERFORM call for most of the banking stocks in our coverage with the exception of AFFIN, AFG, AMBANK and RHBBANK, which are at OUTPERFORM as at current share prices, we see attractive proposition with a potential total return of more than 10% each.

For 2QCY17, all the nine (9) banking stocks under our coverage met our expectations. YoY, earnings improved as impairment allowances fell as expected with improvement in asset quality. We also see widening NIMs due to better management in funding costs and better repricing of assets. However, loans growth seemed to be easing. All in, we maintain our NEUTRAL stance on the sector as the prevailing challenges in the economy still remain. As results were mostly in line, we maintain our MARKET PERFORM call for most of the banking stocks in our coverage with the exception of AFFIN (TP: RM3.00), AMBANK (TP: RM5.00), AFG (TP: RM4.15) and RHBBANK (TP: RM5.60) due to their undemanding valuations.

@Alex Foo, Net interest margin or NIM denotes the difference between the interest income earned and the interest paid by a bank or financial institution relative to its interest-earning assets like cash. ... Meanwhile, a higher NIM would increase the profitability of the lender.
Hope the information is useful.I am just back after the meeting today;-)))
