KUALA LUMPUR (July 25): Bursa Malaysia extended its gaining streak for a fourth consecutive day on Tuesday (July 25), in line with most key regional indices and persistent buying mainly for banking and commodity-related stocks, said an analyst.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng said the KLCI had broken four resistance levels (1,390, 1400, 1,415, and 1,430) since July 7, thanks to buying support from foreign funds.

KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Futures (FKLI) contract registered an all-time high in daily trading volume of 71,689 contracts on Thursday (July 27), surpassing the previous record of 66,887 contracts posted on May 27, 2021.

"This historical trading volume record follows market optimism driven by the possible anticipation that the recent US Federal Reserve decision to increase its benchmark interest rate might mark the final raise in the current cycle, as well as the recent launch of the Madani economic framework," said Bursa Malaysia Derivatives.

KUALA LUMPUR (July 31): PT CIMB Niaga Tbk, the 92.5%-owned subsidiary of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, saw its consolidated net profit rise 27.4% to 3.27 trillion rupiah (RM977.27 million) for the first half ended June 30, 2023 (1HFY2023), from 2.57 trillion rupiah (RM767.1 million) in the same period last year.

Earnings per share grew to 129.67 rupiah from 101.65 rupiah, CIMB’s filing with Bursa Malaysia showed.

CIMB Niaga paid total dividends of 2.87 trillion rupiah in 1HFY2023, which is 22.43% higher than the 2.35 trillion rupiah paid in 1HFY2022.

Niagas 2Q23 results within expectations

Niagas 1H23 results were within expectations and management is more upbeat about 2H23, on expectations of improving NIM and lower credit cost. As such, the bank has since raised its FY23 ROE target to 14-16% from 12-14% previously. We maintain our forecasts for Niaga as well as CIMB Group. From a low of RM4.80 in early June to RM5.72 now for a gain of 92 sen or 19%, this is really impressive. CIMB is undoubtedly the best performing bank stock during this period. Those who had the foresight and picked up a couple of thousand shares then are now laughing to the banks.

CIMB again caught out in Singapore. Singapore business for CIMB is an issue….worst loan write off and now money laundering….we all know despite MAS having a reputation for strict regulation officially has been found out ….lot of the money which comes in from China, Russia, India, U.K. etc is black money ….they let it through as it helps the economy, asset prices etc ….
