April foreign selling slowed down. Amid tapering concerns of another global financial crisis triggered by sharp US Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, net foreign outflows dropped 81% MoM from RM1.3bil in March to RM251mil in April, which was largely offset by local institutions’ net buying of RM213mil (Exhibit 6-8). Most of the April foreign net selling pressure was in banks with the rest in technology, healthcare and REITS, involving CIMB Bank, RHB Bank, Public Bank, Tenaga, Top Glove and Inari Amertron.

However, foreigners were net buyers in Maybank, Hibiscus Petroleum, Malaysia Airports and Genting Malaysia (Exhibits 2-3).

Better than to fight it by increase interest than to do nothing loh!
If we do nothing ....the samething mentioned below wil eventually still happen mah!

Yes...if we increase interest rates earlier....it will benefit the banks in terms of better profit mah.....but fighting high inflation is a very important process loh!

On another note, if interest rate increases above equilibrium, it means structure is broken. Costlier to do biz, means less biz expansion, less biz means less loan disbursement.. it means harder to achieve growth, as it may be offset by NPL also due to increasing rates. Let market forces decide where is the equilibrium.

Sold all my CIMB one and a half years ago for a very small profit. Bought at just over RM5 a share in early 2020 and didn't average down. Switched to Maybank and RHB Bank to enjoy better dividend yields.

@pang72 go look at China Construction Bank and Bank of China shares. All banks in China are flying right now. Useless to trade Bursa stocks nowadays. Liquidity is bad. I am getting bored of Malaysian stocks every day

In 2020, I bought CIMB, no Maybank....
In 2021 I reduced CIMB, accummulate Maybank.
Now, I hold a lot of Maybank while keeping some CIMB as souvenirs :)

CIMB now has very high foreign holding, while Maybank got much lower...
so, when market in uptrend, CIMB will go up more.....
....during downtrend, Maybank will be more stable due to lower foreign holding and support from ASB.....and also EPF.
