KUALA LUMPUR (May 2): Maybank Islamic Bhd, which managed assets under management (AUM) of about RM65.2 billion for 60,000 clients under its Islamic Wealth Management (IWM) division as at February this year, aims to expand the client base to 100,000 in two years.

He said since its launch in June 2021, the IWM service had seen an encouraging growth of about 20% to 30% in AUM year-on-year, which typically includes deposits, investments and takaful.

PETALING JAYA: Forbes has partnered with market research firm Statista to collect customer feedback in order to uncover the world’s best banks in 2023.

According to the survey, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) claimed the top spot for the best bank in Malaysia, followed by United Overseas Bank (UOB) and Standard Chartered in third place. Singaporean OCBC and New York-based Citibank claimed fourth and fifth place respectively.

Statista surveyed more than 48,000 customers in 14 languages and 32 countries for their opinions on their current and former banking relationships.

Banks were rated on customers’ general satisfaction (30% of the final score) and whether they would recommend the bank (30%).

The final 40% came from customer ratings in five key areas: trust, terms and conditions, digital services, customer services and financial advice.

MBB leads in Malaysia banking system digitalization..M2U was first and i believe among the best bank apps in Malaysia..

Branch reception might look terrible, as many still go to branch for the services which can be done over online and ATM machine..so kena tapis2 everyone..but once u get number and be inside..the customer service is good..

Management highlighted in their AGM today that Net profit for FY2022 would have increased 12.9% instead of 1.7% YOY if there was no cukai makmur last year......do homework for this year projection :)

PETALING JAYA: Bank Negara Malaysia has resumed monetary tightening after raising the overnight policy rate (OPR) by 25 basis points (bps) to 3% following its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting today.

The ceiling and floor rates of the corridor of the OPR are correspondingly increased to 3.25% and 2.75%, respectively, BNM said in a statement today.

@stkoay, I was trying to be conservative. One should not write off the possibility of a recession in the later part of the year. I am happy if earnings per share could improve to 72 to 75 sen a share this year.

During AGM this morning, management also maintained....FY23 targets: i) ROE of 10.5-11%, ii) NIM compression of 5-8bps.....

....this is positive bcos CIMB has said NIM compression is higher than expected during the sell side briefying few days ago

....and with the surprise OPR increase, ROE could be on the high side of target.....
....which is about 10% higher than last year....and if payout percentage ratio is maintained, then we can hope for a dividend of 62/64 sen....

Even with a 0.25% hike in OPR, the Ringgit still lost ground against the US Dollar, Euro and British Pound and gained a little against the Australian and Sing Dollars. Our currency is too weak.

Yes...if we increase interest rates earlier....it will benefit the banks in terms of better profit mah.....but fighting high inflation is a very important process loh!

On another note, if interest rate increases above equilibrium, it means structure is broken. Costlier to do biz, means less biz expansion, less biz means less loan disbursement.. it means harder to achieve growth, as it may be offset by NPL also due to increasing rates. Let market forces decide where is the equilibrium.

Interest rate hike is a doubled edge sword for Banks. Expected higher revenue but the risk of NPL also increasing.

Hope Malaysia banking system is under control.
