KLCI was trading in the range of about 1600 to 1800 in 2013.
Today, it's about 1400.
....meaning the market dropped 200 points, you still made reasonable returns if you have invested in Maybank :)

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-05-17 21:52 | Report Abuse

I certainly won't go to such an extent to work out how much I make from my investments in Maybank for the past three years to the nearest sen and my annual % return to two decimal places.

every time dividend declared, I calculate how many DRP units i would receive (if DRP offered) and how many units i could buy with cash dividend..

Thats how lazy Maybank investors could be ;)

I own Maybank for many years already. Dividends are not taken out but reinvested again via DRIP. I have not done any serious calculations for many years on Maybank. Just excited to know stkoay's returns of 20+% over 2 years in Maybank. Maybe I will relook how he did it, trying to emulate his returns. :-)

The stock closed 2021 at 8.30
....closed 2022 at 8.70
....price closed higher by 40 sen during the year....plus dividend for the year at 58 sen....
....total gain for 2022 was 98 sen....versus close of 8.30....meaning the stock registered a gain of 11.8% for the year.

Understand that calculation of Maybank portfolio real avg price and returns, are complicated as involves DRP, cash dividend, re-investment of cash dividend, top up in between, might have some buy and sell during heavy market correction…

interesting to see some quick calculations above :)

Posted by LeonardLiong > 2023-05-18 15:59 | Report Abuse

Still can achieve over 2 billion in net profit for Maybank's Q1 I guess

@linges, yes, just compile your cost and cash dividend received.....let DRP shares add to your total shares without cost.....easier like that :)

@stkoay
Thanks, will try this method.

Maybank's total profit has improved over the past 10 years but its eps has stagnated due to increases in its total issued capital. Its eps was 65,08 sen in 2011, 75.79 sen in 2013, 72.04 sen in 2015, 73.45 sen in 2019, 69.66 sen in 2021 and 68.8 sen last year. Its paid up capital was RM7.5 billion in 2011, increasing to RM12 billion today.

Maybank overpriced?
Depending what think on PE fair value.

My personal chart :

PE below 12 ~ bargain
PE 12.0-12.5 ~ fair value
PE 12.5-13.0 ~ slightly high (current price)
PE more 13 ~ high

The best conservative measurement for maybank is div yield loh!

The average div yield now is 3% to 4% pa but maybank div yield is more than 6% pa loh!

That means not overvalue mah!

Agree..consistent dividend 6-8% is the main reason why we love so much this stock and hold long term..ha ha

I use PE mainly to decide when to top up, to maintain good safety margin.

But if market expecting ‘outperform’ QR…then PE could fly beyond 13.5 also..

Maybank's total earnings this year is forecast to reach RM9.734 billion or 78 sen a share. Applying a PE of 13, it should be worth RM10.14 a share.

When it rises, it rises slowly. When it falls, it falls heavily. Three days gains wiped out in just two hours.

Among Bank counters, Maybank is the worst performer today, falling by over 2%. CIMB and AmBank are still slightly up today. What is happening to the darling of investors?

1Q report will probably be out on Wednesday 24th May.
......will wait for report to see if this is a good entry ....no hurry and no need to try to figure out why the selling....
....as dividend investor, fundamental (company's profit) matters....not price traded in market.

Fast to bounce back. Has already recovered 45% of yesterday's loss. First quarter earnings should be reasonably good.

Indeed should be good.

DBS, OCBC and UOB All Reported Record Earnings. These beautiful banks have been a big beneficiary of surging interest rates as the US Federal Reserve began its aggressive rate hikes in March 2022. Back then, no one thought that over the next year, the central bank would embark on one of its most aggressive interest-rate increases in history to combat inflation.

United Overseas Bank Ltd (SGX: U11), or UOB, was the first to hand in its report card, where it announced a record net profit of S$1.6 billion.

Next, DBS Group (SGX: D05) turned in a similarly-stellar earnings report for fiscal 2023’s first quarter (1Q 2023) with a historical net profit of S$2.57 billion.

Not to be outdone, OCBC Ltd (SGX: O39) followed up with its record net profit of S$1.88 billion, being the last of the three banks to report its results.

If these 3 can do so can Tiger!
