KUALA LUMPUR (April 4): The 1.66 million barrels per day (bpd) "voluntary" output cut by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (Opec+) was a positive surprise, as the market was expecting the status quo to remain, said Maybank Investment Bank Bhd (Maybank IB).

In a note on Tuesday (April 4), Maybank IB said that Opec+ had continued to play its role as a formidable swing producer, and remained a very much disciplined pact collectively.

“We are keeping our oil price forecast unchanged at US$100 a barrel (bbl) (dated Brent crude) for 2023, with an upside bias.

“Oil prices could sustain above US$100 per bbl should Opec+ take a stand to see an elevated oil price policy over higher output.

Highlights of the first quarter performance were as follows:
Consolidated Sales Volume was up by 11% to 28.59 million barrels (MMB) versus 25.67 MMB in the same period last year. Except for exports, all Sales Trade posted improvements from the growing fuel demand. Commercial sales grew owing to the rebound in the aviation sector as more countries lifted their COVID-19 quarantine protocols. Retail sales also continued its recovery resulting from the increased mobility in both Philippines and Malaysia
Net Sales rose by 10% to P= 188.75 billion primarily from the growth in sales volume. Meanwhile, the effect of lower benchmark Dubai average from USD95.56/bbl in 1Q 2022 to USD80.32/bbl this year was partially offset by the depreciation of the peso against US dollar from P= 51.54/USD to P= 54.84/USD.
Similarly, Cost of Goods Sold increased by 10% to P= 176.72 billion from higher sales volume. While commodity prices softened this year, the strong regional refining cracks were sustained improving gross profit by P316 million to P= 12.04 billion from =P 11.72 billion last year
Selling and Administrative Expenses was 10% higher at P= 4.01 billion as against P3.64 billion in the 1Q last year due to the increase in maintenance and repairs at the service stations, terminals, and IT-related assets and LPG cylinder purchases.
Other Operating Income increased to P= 394 million from P= 351 million attributed to higher rental income.

I notice that the interest expense of petron corporation is increased but I think interest expenses will less effect to petron malaysia because petron malaysia debts is denominated at RM and interest rate is lower.

Reading the recent comments, there are great expectations. I hope will not be met by great disappointment. Oddly though, it does not reflect in the share price which is trading in one of the lowest PE in the market.

Despite Kebling98's conviction that profits will > 100m for the quarter, I've my doubts.
If that is so then why is the PE only a shade above 4 & NTA almost double?

Are the markets not efficient? Are there many ill-informed investors who have yet to spot this gem? ---- Unlikely!

Petron Corp Q1 result, the non-control interest profit is Peso 361m. The non-control interest profit refer to 26.6% non-control interest in Petron Malaysia. Therefore in total full Petron Malaysia profit should be
100% /26.6% = 3.76
3.76 x Peso 361m = Peso 1357m
Peso 1357m x conversion rate 0.08 = RM 108.6m (Q1 EPS = 40.2sen)

hng33 - that's very clever of you! I'm an accountant myself albeit a half-baked but a skeptical one.

Based on your calculation, I checked against the corresponding figure of 350 Peso for 31 Mar 2022 results & it corresponded with the published results of Mar 2022. Kudos! Now waiting with much anxiety our actual quarterly results.
