Genting share is like no other very strange dealing pattern lot of small holders who keep disposing with small gains probably day traders. Also cannot see Genting Malaysia business outperforming as its cost base is high and is not efficiently run. You have to look at the management staff most are related with no outside people …it is a family business working within their community not based on capability I suspect! It is is family business and not a typical public listed company …only chance of outperformance is Taurx!

FF big return on 15Nov with net buy of 24mil of GenB share from Retailer. Like i mention before this stock is the money game between Foreign and Retailer, only FF will push up the share price. Just follow the money flow and enough the profit.

Interest rates,

I am inclined to agree with the market that we are at (or close to) peak interest rates here.

I may disagree with the exact timing on interest rates cuts, and the exact magnitude of cuts.

But big picture wise, I agree that the next big move from the Feds is likely to be interest rate cuts in 2024.

Sidenote that as of Nov 2023, the Feds have been on “pause” for about 5 months.

And history tells us that the Feds usually “pause” for 6 – 12 months before starting to cut.

So timing wise it does seem to point towards 2024 interest rate cuts.

All this is bullish for stock (from an interest rates perspective).

Recession (or not),

I know everyone is sick of the impending “recession” by now.

But macro is slow.

Just when everyone is sick of the “recession”, that is when the risks are the highest.

And if you look at latest US data, it paints a picture of:

- Climbing credit card / auto loan delinquency for the weakest consumers

- Rising unemployment (albeit slowly)

- More cautious guidance from companies on the strength of the consumer moving forward..

Historically speaking, the 3s10s yield curve is the best indicator (timing wise) for a US recession.

And a recession usually hits about 6 – 12 months after the resteepening of the yield curve.

The 3s10s resteepened in mid 2023, which again places the danger zone in 1H 2024 (note how this aligns with the expectation of rate cuts above).

If we get a recession, the question is how deep it will be.

And what is the impact on real estate prices, and rental yields.

All not easy questions – to depend very much on policy makers reaction.

Which don’t forget, 2024 is a US election year, all while 2 hot wars are ongoing.

So while interest rates may be at / close to a peak, this question about recession in 2024 is a big question mark.

Genting share performance is frustrating as it was 5 plus when it was loss making and now it is struggling to get to 5, when it has become profitable, just does make sense. A big catalyst is needed. Any small rises are neutralised by selling ….sadly there is no marketing of the company or capital even to promote and disclose company strategy and progress etc. the management are sleeping and this down to share ownership.

After the disposal of all my GENTING shares in year 2019, I’m so lucky to have got out before its stock price collapse because of Empire acquisition.
Empire is still a loss making casino, unfortunately and will continue to have negative impact for a long time.
